Picture thread attempt 4a, pen spring ladies

Thanks for the compliment
For a while I've been wanting to post a "shrinkage challenge" thread on here because I swear I have the most shrinkage I've ever seen and I've peeped an awful lot of fotkis...lol. Its the damn springs I tell ya! But I am happy with my hair, if I treat it right it does have a lot of shine and is soft
3c/4a, thick cottony/silky little spiral curls. Loves moisture, hates cones...www.beijaflornaturals.com
cool there is a name to the coils i have. ive got the pen spring thing going too especially when it gets wet. it almost feels like a bunch of knots but its just the coils tightly woven.

Thanks for the thread!!

And gurl about this shrinkage thing. Just the other day my man was playing in my hair. <I know lol.

And he stretched one of the little coilies. He goes "Omg your hair isn't that short at all is it? That's so cool, I love your hair"

Wiry, coily, brassy 4a hair with low porosity and a dislike of 'cones.

Wow! Thanks for posting this thread! I'm pretty sure that I fall into the 4a category. Check out my August updates for my Fotki Album

Are these the type of coils you ladies are speaking of?

I'm still relaxed, but here are pictures of them when I was 4 months post relaxer. I've always identified as 4a/4b.

They're wavy when wet, but dry into coils.

I hope this helps
I hope I didn't offend anyone by replying since I still have a relaxer.

Are those the type of 4a curls that is being asked about in this thread?
It's hard to tell Spoiledcurl, I would need a little more new growth to determine it. Also I have found transitioning hair isn't always the best for deciding what hair type you are. The relaxed hair on the ends definitely keeps the coils/curls from clumping to their full advantage.

My coils didn't really show until I cut off my relaxed hair.

Your hair is very pretty though.

No problem. Another is Beautiful Brown Baby Doll. This video shows that she has coils and she has other videos where she discusses her regimen:

From your regrowth scalp shot, I suspect your coils may be a bit bigger than pen springs, but it could be due the the current weight of your hair stretching your coils out. They're pretty nonetheless.

Loving this thread.

I have this hair type as well, though in my crown there are some looser straw-sized areas. It may not be rare, but I live in DC where there are a TON of naturals, and I've just never seen it. In fact, I regularly have other naturals approach me in wonder saying "Your curls are SO small and cute!"

As soon as I figure out how to post a picture, I will.

It's very tiny and I always see curlies of a much larger diameter say they are coffee stirrer size. I mean it is confusing, most of my curls are somewhere in between pencil and the tinyness of that as are most people. But finding a true coffee stirrer is hard. Lenny Kravitz is one:

Well if the person doesn't have to have ALL coffee stirrer curls, I could post in a year or so. My pen spring curls are only on my canopy.

I'ma gonna get my friend's digital camera and show you some REAL pen springs, girl.

My hair kinda looks like a cross between Lenny's and yours, Sandy, but about half the size of size. That's right-- half!

Smallest coils in CA, girl! AND I'm bringing shrinkage back! (Yeah!)

Yours are so pretty, though. I wish I could henna without tearing my coif up.
