My new protective style- Half Wigs
So, I've been looking for a protective style in which I am able to still condition my hair. I was originally getting tree braids. Even though I was getting one inch of growth, my ends always seemed to be damaged and in need of a trim when taking them out. I believe it was the synthetic hair drying the ends out.
So, here is my new protective hair style..Half Wigs! I plan to get a few more so I can switch up. I gel (specifically one without cones) the front back and the rest of my hair is in small braids/plaits. I couldn't get the pictures to insert bigger, so you may have to click on them to enlarge.

does it have a comb clip? if not, how does it attach to your hair/head?

Thanks
It has a comb in the front and the back. I pin it on the sides with bobby pins and then put my head band on. I make sure not to leave any hair out so that its fully protected. I got it at my local BSS for like $20.

Your half wig looks fab. I have been toying with this idea for a while. I want to look like I have my hair out but not have the trims and subsequent knots that come along with it. I may give this a shot!

I feel the same way. I don't want it to look fake. Since my weave is blended/customized to my hair texture, I spend a lot money on it. I would like my 1/2 wigs to do the same thing. I've yet to find one of my liking.
Plus, I have a fear that someone will snatch it off. I've seen and heard of way too many wig horror stories.

Curly83 I have been dying to find me a half wig but have yet to find the time to make it to to the the big bss here locally. The smaller ones don't just don't have nearly as great of a selection. I have the same plan for the winter. I did find a couple that I like online but I want to try it on an make the color.
I can't wait.
My plan is to braid/twist my natural every two to three weeks and leave it alone except for a daily moisture spritz and three times a week scalp massage with castor oil.
I am so tired of doing my hair every week.

I feel you on that. I was getting tired of doing my hair and I'm trying to achieve growth as well. The first half wig I bought was online and it didn't look anything like the pic and it was too big..lol. I like going to the BSS because they let you try it on. The one I have on in the picture is combed with a wide tooth comb to take the shine out so it doesn't look to fake. I also cut a few layers in it to.
I wish I could go 2 to 3 weeks without washing my hair. I can go almost a week before I start to get buildup.
The brand for the wig is Enstyle 1 minute wig and the style is Beyonce.
Can't remember who mentioned about blending their hair in with the wigs. This was my main concern until I saw KinkyKurlyKool's tutorial on half wigs. You can gel or smooth your hair back and put the wig on top of that, then cover with a headband. No worries about blending your hair. Here's her fotki.

This had me rolling. I don't think I'll be doing that on a daily basis for my wig to come off. I have it pinned on the sides, front and back.

OK Curly83, I need the brand name and type of the half wig you are sporting in those pics! Girl, you look great and you may have just saved me from pneumonia this winter! I will even look for it online as long as I can get away without leaving my house at 5:00 in the morning with a wet head! Thanks in advance!

Thanks girl!! The brand name is Enstyle and it's the Beyonce style. I bought it at my local BSS. If you are buying online, be careful of some. They don't always look like the picture..lol. Here are some websites.

Here's my 1/2 wig
That is a really cute wig! Looks really good on you. I have only worn mine with some hair out but I will be trying it with the headband and no hair out for a total protective style. Thanks!

Darnit! Can I have my dream back? You've got a point. I don't get a lot of buildup but OK back to reality!
I think I may went as long as a week and a few days without washing. Shoot!
All i know is I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired of doing my hair every week. lol
I know if I do the braids under I can wash them weekly. If i do twists under, they will tangle so that's out.

Thank you for posting these pics! I am in the process and have looked at half wigs online and I just wasn't sure on how to make it look real without being processed. By the way, do you mind posting the tutorial again? I tried to go to the site, but it says the member is not found. Thanks!

This is the one I sold on the swap board.
The color is 1b/33hl. I assume the hl means highlights.
I should have chosen a 2 for my henna'ed hair but oh well.
The brand is MIZ Collection by Mizon Trading, Ltd. and it is synthetic. The model is MZ-826. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find it on the internet.
It has the Nano Miracle Silver anti-microbial fiber wig breathable cap.
As an added bonus, it is a two in one Half wig and Drawstring Ponytail.
