Spongy textured 4a's, Let's talk
I cant seem to find anyone who has my hair texture. i have a spongy hair texture. i usally see either silky textured people or cottony textured people. while i appreciate others comments i would like to see what they have to say about this kind of hair.
here is the description of spongy hair Spongy - Hair has a high sheen with low shine with a compacted looking frizz. Absorbs water before it gets thoroughly wet. does anyone think that the slow absorbtion of water inhibits curl defition because i noticed my curls just do not get defined unless i have left conditioner on it for a while. when i leave my hair with no products and no manipulation the end result is very undefined and resembles 4b hair. i only get definition with a gel . i have to shellac it on before my hair starts to react to it and it then gets super defined(and super hard) LOL. its so annoying! im still searching for something that defines my curls with out the crunch. sometimes i feel like giving up. |
bump no one else has this texture?
|
That's what I have. The more moisture the more definition. The more manipulation the more frizz I have. That is why somtimes kinky curly works great and at other times its a disaster.

I totally know what you are talking about. I have that texture on the lower left quadrant of my hair and it is rather frustrating at times, especially right now since the seasons changed. I found that I have to have a super rock solid moisture regimen to get definition in that section. There was a period of time a few months ago when that section was defined and during that time I was using HEHH for my rinse out condish, Jessicurl WDT for my deep, I would use a leave - in (still trying to have the perfect one) but at the time it was Taliah Waajid Conditioner (its a rinse out but I leave it in) and I would twist (for the purpose of airdrying) with JC Nourish and Shine. I would refresh with Oyin Greg Juice. My hair was very moisturized during that time I was so amazed and in love with the curl definition. Needless to say I strayed away from that due to trying other things and trying to use up some products and now my hair has gone insane and its frizzed out and ultra ultra dry...but anyway. Yes I can relate. I've found that moisture is the key. and while your trying to de-spongify I highly rec that you stay away from heat styling bc it only exacerbates the problem. this is just my trial and error experiences. I hope that helps.

OMG I know just what you mean, this is EXACTLY my hair type, except for some really smooth hair in the back, I just can't seem to figure out what to do with it,some days I think I'm caring for it properly other days I'm sure I've done something wrong.

i dont have spongy hair but thought this was a nice site. i have cottony hair. |
Yep, this is me too. Spongy. However I can get definition without any products. Lots of frizz but still lots of curl too.
If I rake my gel in section by section until I feel it begin to absorb in my hair that's when I get great definition and no frizz. Put a little Long Aid Curl Activator under your gel. That should cut the crunch but still give you definition. For a while, the Curls cream gave me awesome hair. But once I tried gel I couldn't beat the shine. |

Spongy TWA
I have spongy texture that tends to coil rather than curl... I get that frizzy thing going on when there is too much manipulation or use of the wrong product.
Without a leave-in or styling product, my hair will will stand straight up at the top and the sides will cave in. Not a good look. :confused2: I get great curl definition with half KCCC and half Biotera Gel. |

me too
I have spongy hair too. I have really tight coils that will frizz if I don't use leave in/cream styler/then kccc. Any other combo makes my hair a frizzy spongy mess.

That's me as well. Especially the water part. I can stand under my shower for minutes :clock:before my hair is thoroughly saturated. Also, I need think products to moisturize my hair...

In general I guess its all curly hair. I was just describing the look of the curl.

Oh I'm not arguing or correcting. I was just wondering what you meant by coil and what it looks like.

lol. Not crunchy hair--just a moderate hold with both gels. IMO, the Biotera Gel is really more like a serum or liquidy glaze. I think it really helps with my frizz issues.
Sometimes I use a very small amount of curl cream as a leave in. Quote:
