Ask The Next Person Anything (jr)

This thread is the offspring of the same thread on the nh board. Sometimes I have questions that don't seem to merit a whole new thread, and I would ask it on the nh board but I'd prefer to ask it of 4As only.

How it works:
1) Answer the question that the person before you asks.
2) Pose a question for the next person to answer.

What are you doing with your hair for the winter? Anything in particular?
No MAS.

I am the new Black.

If you have really thick hair, how do you prep you hair for a bun or updo style to keep the hair from pouffing everywhere?

Me
I have been wearing buns lately--I pull it back in a ponytail holder (it's not a high or low bun, it's right in the middle) and I split the ponytail into two sections. I twist each section and wind them together so it looks like one piece and I secure that with another ponytail holder (but hair pins will work too). This is great if your hair isn't long enough to take the ponytail and wrap into one section, but even when my hair is long enough, my hair is so thick that it looks more balanced if I break it into two sections and then wind it into place.

For product--I only use aloe vera gel on the outside of my hair once its up in a bun. I don't put styling products throughout if I'm wearing a bun.

If you can achieve second day or third day hair, what's your secret?

For my fine-haired ladies, what are your go-to style (other than the wash-n-go)?

I have been bunning for the last couple of months to give my hair a break from all the manipulation necessary to maintain a w&g. I am trying to give my hair a break for the winter too. I can't do the twist thing, my hair looks crazy! Just too much scalp showing...

Tell me about your most difficult hair moment.

I had no idea I could love it so much… Hair!
BC'd in Aug 08
My goal: Bra strap length by Oct 1, 2010.
My Favs: Trader Joe’s Spa cond, everything Giovanni, and my own Oil Mix (avocado, neem, castor, and shea butter).
My most difficult hair moment was when I had little white spots all in my hair from my leave-in. I had to stick my head under the faucet and plop some curl-activator gel in my hair and jet to work. I know I looked a hot mess that day with dripping wet hair!
Am I the only one who see's little ragedy ends that need to be trimmed when they do two-stranded twist?

No you're not. Since I'm newly natural I have done that at least twice so far and I'm sure I will have to do it occasionally.

Oyin Handmade Honey Hemp Conditioner. It was ok, nothing spectacular.

About how much money did you spend on hair products the first 6 months of being natural?

Favorite things about my journey are the hair experiments and gaining the self confidence to wear out my natural hair. I loved buying new hair products.

The least favorite was trying to figure out how to manage a bad hair day. Justifying why I am natural was hard at first until I did not give a care any longer. The long detangle process is frustrating sometimes.

How often do you go to a salon, if ever?
How often do you go to a salon, if ever?

I haven't been back to the salon since my last relaxer/hair wash in Feb '08. I even did my own BC in April '08. I still laugh at that since I was a serious "salon girl" while relaxed.

Of course I use my Goody Ouchless bands to make my puffs. I also use scarves, headbands and ,my new love, flowers. I bought my flowers from Claire's when their had their BOGO half off sale. I get my other accessories from Target.

Question: Have you received more positive or negative feedback from your family/friends since going natural?
