Growth Challenge...reloaded

the do gro spray has food oils in thier products i want to spray my roots with it mornings and nights. do you mean the pure oils you mention before like the egg, olive oil and honey for conditioner? would it leave a residue in my braids? and are there pure oils you would use on the braids itself for the whole day ?and i don`t know how to turn on comments.

the egg yolk mixture was purely for conditioning and/or deep treatments - i wouldn't recommend it for a leave in
you may want to do some research it's probably not a good idea to put oil on your roots often unless you're washing them often - on the ends i think it's always ok...... BUT there are always people who use oil on their scalp a lot and say that it works for them
i don't know if the egg would be good to use while your hair is in braids..... the other stuff should wash out fine..... this summer i did use egg yolk for the first time in my hair with braids - it didn't leave residue BUT i had extensions and washed them out really really well the few times i did it....
it probably would be at least good for a deep condition sometime before you are taking your braids out..... e.g. if you're taking them out w-in a day, few days or a week.... i wouldn't put the egg condition or any thick mixture on my scalp....... i put it on the about 1/2 to 3/4 of the hair shaft and then it "runs" by itself down the rest of the hair

edit i just read that doogro has mineral oil...... eek! if you want to buy an oil probably better to go with wildgrowth..... anyone care to chime in?

nothing exciting to report.....

my hair is kind of blah..... i haven't been getting such great curl definition lately..... possibly because i am trying to use less product especially gels..... and also because not trying that hard perhaps..... hair seems to be growing..... the area with a really noticeable improvement is the hair at the temples..... has really filled in quite a bit...... which is fantastic..... hopefully soon i won't always have to cover it although i am thinking maybe i will most days just to protect it.....

2 main annoying developments....... 1)it is parting itself when i shake and go - so now i can no longer completely shake and go - i have to make sure the top is fluffed/unparted.... adding the leave-in when bent over helps combat this 2) i am seeing more of these straight/wavy hairs.... anyone have this? it's not a straight area but random straight hairs interspersed with the curly ones...... first noticed in August...... perhaps they've been there all along...... it's not something i'd have noticed if my hair was combed out and /or braided

trying to stick to my vitamin regimen.... won't be adding anything new for now just trying to stick to what i have..... the most difficult thing is the flaxseed meal..... it doesn't taste good at all and can be hidden in things but becomes a challenge when you're trying to eat it daily..... anyway i am still hoping for seeing a boost in growth in december..... when i will have been taking supplements for over a month..... my nails seem to be stronger

i did take some pictures last week, of the front only.... when i post them on my fotki i'll let everyone know....... and then of course i'll bve taking complete growth photos in mid novemeber

also need to remember to keep up my hair notebook - so that i can figure out how i achieved certain styles/looks

some things i found out my hair especially likes - molasses (even more than honey), shea butter (it really keeps hair from breaking), the following oils - sesame, grapeseed

i did finally get some aloe vera gel - LOTD and veg glycerin - wow it is sticky..... not sure where i will start with these

thanks mariposa, when i brought the doogro home yesterday i was shock to see it contain mineral oil, i use it to see how it would work ,and the next day my scalp was kind of dry and i saw some flacks on my scalp, i would def make my own spray, i would combine the some oils you have mention with an organics carrot oil cream by african best.

it contains water,hydrogenated veg oil,PEG-40 castor oil and stearalkonium chloride,cetyl ester,soybean oil,peanut oil and carrot extract(beta carotene) and isopropyl myristate and tocopherol(vit E),methylcellulose,hydrolzed collagen,pathenol(vit B),cholesterol,rosemary extract,nettle extract,horsetail extract,DMDM hydantoin,methylparaben,propylparaben , fragrance
Update: I just purchased some Biotin and Multivitamins. I've been loving the coconut oil in my deep treatments. I wanted to know are pre-natal vitamins better than regular vitamins? Anyone?

I read on the longhairforum that prenatal vitamins give the illusion of hair growth but they actually prevent you from shedding as much. When you go off of them, all of the shedding that should have taken place may happen at once! They don't actually make your hair grow faster...you just retain what you have...at least I think that's what they said.

prenatal vitamins might not help more than a reg vitamin and you are paying so much more for them it's not worth it..... better to get a reg multivitamin and then purchase some supplements
bargello addresses this in that long explanation...... which i found useful except some of the information in it was definitely incorrect......

i wonder if we could have a vitamin sticky somewhere in the forum...... maybe not just 4a

anyway i read that, did some research and ended up deciding to take a multi + a hair vitamin (among other things)..... i also found some other important supplements that she left off.... will post them some time

hey everyone, its been almost 8 months since i perm my hair ,i thought it was 5 month, i just found a pic in my cellphone dated march 12,2006 the same week i came back from the hairdresser after they flatiron my hair, my mom perm it first she perm it too quickly, my hair was to the end of my neck, but now its sholder length.i remember being angry 2 weeks after i got my hair press b/c some long strans of my hair came out from the roots, the iron was too hot.

i`m happy that it end up being almost 8 months , but i don`t know why i still have relaxed in my hair?i wish i took pics of the length of my hair before that day, i only took a picture of the front of my face.
YAY! Holly, I know you're very proud of your 8 month accomplishment. I bought a couple of butters from Whole Foods in my battle against dryness. I've been wetting my hair less and moisturizing every night, sometimes twice a day. I do it while I'm sitting in front of the TV...

Just a quick update. I have only seen one significant change in my hair over the past month. It is brighter, shinier I mean. I started taking vitamins too. I started flaxseed oil over the summer and just added a prenatal vitamin to it. If you are not planning a pregnancy, I say buy a regular multivitamin. The prenatal ones are really expensive.
I added a few pictures. Hopefully you can see the progress.

Fleurtzy, I love your hair and the color! Hot!

I've been sticking to my moisture regimen. I've been trying to stay away from gels (i break down and use them sometimes), and use the knock off curly pudding instead, which works great. Underneath that, I use Giovanni Direct (although I'm looking for a cheaper leave-in, because that ish is expensive) and now I seal with a butter I found at Whole Foods. I've been airdrying instead of using the hooded dryer and I've cut back my co-washing to once a week!

Things are good...I'm taking my vitamins when I remember.

That's all for me, I'll post pics sometime this weekend.

Thank you ladies! Mariposa, thanks for pointing that out. The new pictures were in another album. The only difference I can see in the past month is the shine. The recent pictures seem brighter. I
okay i posted my photos - same password - mariposa

posted for 28 oct and 11 nov (so approx 2 weeks and month)

wow this hair growth bizness is time consuming but it helps a lot to see the album up.... so i don't regret it if i had time there's a lot more i would add

i find the fotki site to be really really difficult to use sometimes..... btw did you guys know you can request more space every 30 days from your "my account" page? (finding that page is a challenge - need to click the upper left corner of the "my albums"/"my fotki" button until you get a menu

my summary as posted on the album
"end of first month..... doesn't seem to have grown too much since the end oct.... perhaps hair prefers more frequent washing? The greatest improvement is at the hairline/temples..... for the first time i actually have hair on the scar tissue and it's really growing in THICKER..... testament to the oil treatments.... the pics don't do justice to that area..... i'll try to take better ones...."

i haven't measured or photographed it but it does seem as if the top/back of head has grown a lot too

tentative plans for the next month
- to really make some kind of measuring shirt/camisole.... saw another fotki member do that - fantastic idea..... she had drawn premeasured lines on a camisole which she would then use to chart her growth
- keep taking photos and do a better job of documenting (in hair jounal) what i put in my hair.... annoying when i see a pic i really like and i'm not sure what i did to get my hair that way
- keep working on my "recipes" and hopefully develop a range of stuff to use over the winter
- keep taking supplements and possibly look into adding some growth drinks - no increase or adding of supplements at moment - possibly increasing biotin to 5000 but not sure that's a great idea given the facial breakouts
- try twists again at least once (have not tried since beginning august, since trim haircut)
- do good job of figuring out when exactly i need to shampoo
- hopefully get straight hairs looked at
- i like the way my hair feels, even if it isn't growing a whole lot so i don't want to change my routine too much.... especially as i'll have to make drastic changes in january when it'll be just too cold to wear it anyway i want

======

i did go back and measure and it's approximately an inch..... no less than 0.75" growth in the front from last month.... the sides and back i am not so sure but it is the front that i need to catch up

right now it's about 1.25" 1.5 max to my chin from the corner of my mouth (i.e. above where hair is now)..... i definitely think i can make that christmas goal..... unless something drastic happens

also wanted to report that i have 2 good homemade conditioners to use the rosemary honey recipe from motown (changed slightly) and the generic one-c posted on this site).... a definite HG shampoo to add to the one i had before.... so definitely progress!

I'm such a bumb...I haven't done a dt in 2 weeks and I've been slacking on the filtered water thing. I guess I need to buy one for my shower, because bending over the sink just ain't working. I have however been using my butter for my ends, so thats one positive thing.

Also, while engaging in pjism at Sally's (I was only supposed to buy fingernail polish remover, cotton balls and lottabody for the mix) I bought my ol' faithful...Generic Sebastian 9.

I haven't used it in a while because it is a protein based product. I thought that it was the protein drying me out...but it probably had something to do with the diffuser that i used everyday as well. So, now, I'm trying it again, but with a moisturizing leave-in under it. I'm such a pj. I'll post results.
