Experiences with Rhassoul Clay

I just tried rhassoul clay for the first time! I like it. I think it has made my hair a little softer, shinier and slightly reduced shrinkage. I will say this... It did not dry out my hair. As for the benefits I think I experienced I will have to try a few more times.

All I did was mix with hot water. I did not add any other ingredients. It was easy to mix and very smooth and creamy. I did it thin enough to be able to spread but thick enough that it would coat. Sort of a paste consistency. Thicker than cake batter.

Moisture is not enhanced in fact it makes my hair slightly drier and disturbs my curl definition. I'm covered in a halo of frizz. Also, I just noticed this wash that I still had clay on my scalp...if i worked hard enough I could make sure I rinsed enough but I don't want to work that hard. My olive rinses that I love so much leave me with greasy hair after doing the rhassoul treatment. Maybe because it binds to any clays still remaining in the hair. So while I can adjust things to make it work for me I prefer simple...So rhassoul is off my list. I'll use the rest for my skin.

@alsaxon, you should mix the rhassoul and other clay for that matter with lukewarm or warmed to the touch water (I use tea). This prevents clumping and easier application. Also add an oil to it. I like vitamin E oil. Remember it can act as both a deep conditioner and cleanser. Try that. I use a rinse out conditioner when I'm done.

Maybe I need to scrub the scalp when I am rinsing it out. I also use a rinse out conditioner at the end but I use it after the olive oil not the rhassoul. Meaning I rinse the rhassoul out, do my olive oil treament and then rinse out with my rinse conditioner. Maybe I should the cowash after the rhassoul and it will prevent the oil from sticking and maybe it will wash the clay off my scalp better.

I think I give up though. I like simplicity and its not like I really needed the rhassoul I just wanted to try it to see what all the rave was about. I guess the PJ in me reared its ugly head once more.

I was having the same problem with the clay. I got it from MRH so I think its their particular quality which isnt up to par. I had also ordered bentonite from them and I compared my mix to the one I made from the Aztec brand and the clay mix with the Aztec brand clay came out so much better and didnt leave my skin or scalp or hair ashy
how is this clay from camden grey?

As I have found my new baby daddy...yesterday I got the Butters n Bars Conditioning Hair Masque (which is mainly rhassoul clay and pink clay) at a natural hair meet up...and awwww maaaahhh gawd! It's like the benefit of a henna treatment (smoother, softer hair) without the need to DC after. My hair was so soft that I just used a LI and wore Izzy all big, and I have MAJOR HIH syndrome right now so I've basically messed up my hair, but I don't care! Izzy feels like chocolate mousse!

Furthermore, I looked at the ingredients and decided to test it on my face and yuuuuum! I had been doing bentonite clay treatments, but those are a little drying and initially my face looks like I have sunburn until it calms down...but with this masque, my skin feels soft and supple, with no redness.

This is definitely my favorite DC I have bought (yes, I'm aware I could make it, but seriously...I'm lazy and 6oz is only $7) rather than mixed in my own kitchen, and I'm about to order more, so I just wanted to share with you all.

Last time I bought some from Mountain Rose Herbs and it was horrible. Nothing I did could make the mix feel beneficial. I'm hoping it was the quality of that particular clay but idk. I'm may order it from Garden of Wisdom because they have some other fruit powders I have been looking for and would like to add in a clay mask.

CocoT when did you get yours? She has added a preservative to the mix now, so maybe it won't get moldy.

Oh it was quite a long time ago. I think it was in April. I'm glad she finally added a preservative.

The goats milk counteracts the dryness & has AHA's so it exfoliates lowkeyy, when I rinse my skin feels velvety not stripped and looks smoooth the next day!

Also, honey prevents it from drying hard and makes it less harsh too.. still havent tried bentonite on my dang hair though, Ive got marshmallow powder and all that, I guess ill try that next wash day!

I need to stop bsing and just buy straight up rhassoul clay.

I ended up trying the rhassoul I got from Garden of Wisdom and I don't like it. It's extra gritty. I don't know what it is about my luck with clays but none seem to work for me when I try to mix them up myself. The Aztec bentonite clay is good though. I need to pick some up but I keep forgetting. I've seen some have had good results with the rhassoul from Camden Grey.

The Anita Grant Rhassoul is awesome. I'm glad I tried it. Before I cut my hair I got the block thinking I'll get a good 9 treatments out of it, but now it looks like that will last even longer than I anticipated . I saw Mop Top Maven did a review on it and I don't know how she was able to get away with using only 2 cubes. It took me all three + 1 and that was barely enough. Even with my TWA 3 cubes is barely enough. I like it as a DC but when I used it three weeks in a row, I realized that that was a bad idea not only because it's expensive ( ) but it can be "not as moisturizing" due to the cleansing properties of rhassoul. At least for me.

I have the Anita Grant Cubes and I use Çoconut Concentrate with Marshmallow Root and a dash of Hibiscus powder. So far so good but I'm still learning how much of each item to use.

But dang you add all of that extra stuff to your Anita Grant condish? Have you ever tried it with just one liquid?

Are you ladies finding you prefer rhaoussal clay instead of bentonite?

But I know my hair has to have something super softening in it so I have to add hibiscus and marshmallow without any question now, it's a must. I will tackle henna later on this year but for now I alternate from Cassia Obovata to the Rhassoul Clay each month, late summer I will henna.

Oh and I talked to Marsha from Curl Junkie today and she got me thinking about so much more stuff to do. The wheels are turning about the powders I have and I know it's almost midnight now and I have to get up at 4am for work but dang it I cant sleep now that we talked about hair stuff.

Oh and I still need to figure out the Bentonite Clay stuff, it was terrible for me. This was pre-Youtube days for me and I know I jacked up something terrible.
I've been mixing rhassoul with my ayurvedic herbs to make my conditioning paste and I love it.
I mix the clay and powders with hibiscus tea and let it stand for a few minutes; the resulting paste is very smooth and easy to rinse out.
