2010 12 week Deep Conditioning Challenge - WE'RE DONE!!!!!

Yay! I in then! I will post pics over the weekend.
Ok I wanna do this! My ends are very dry. My hair is healthy but I need to step up my game. I'm currently in the market for a better condish. Out of these, can you ladies tell me which is best: Afro Detangler (got a sample and it was fab!), Oyin Honey Hemp, Rhassoul Clay, or whatever the best one is by Trader Joe's (I think its Tea Tree Triple Treat?)

I will start off with Giovanni Nutrafix Hair Reconstructor and alternate with yogurt alone or yogurt with oil or another condish. I normally DT once a week so I'll do it twice a week. Idk if I'll be able to do it 3 times?!! Ok, when we're not leaving it on overnight, how long can we leave it on for? Also, are we allowe dto use heat to dry our hair? If I air dry, my hair is still wet in the morning

I will post a before pic asap!

I'm back!!! Finally...I plan to do two DCs a week with either Jessicurl WDT, Hairveda Sitrinillah or AO HSR. I cowash on Wednesday and Sunday followed by an ACV rinse and DC and detangle. I DC overnight and rinse the conditioner out in the morning. I plan to do quick two strand twists and redo only once a week. I will probably throw a monthly cassia or henna treatment in the mix also.

I just did my second deep conditioning treatment today. I washed with Alba botanica shampoo (the coconut milk one) and used Joico Moisture Recovery as my dt.

Let me just say I will NEVER leave Joico again! LOL. I don't know why I ever did. My hair feels so soft and moisturized and detangling was nearly effortless.

I've been bunning daily and just this week I've been doing dt's 2x/wk.

So far soo good!

@mixedupcurlychick- I havent tried the conditioners you listed But I do use Giovanni TTTT. (Trader joes Tea tree treat or what ever it's called is a knock off of this) I love it It has great slip and my hair feels wonderful afterwards

I had my hair in plaits for the last week and a half. I DCed on thursday overnight. I put some of my giovanni TTTT and avocado oil and babied oved night. I rinsed it in the shower. I put my braids in a bun with a head band and called it a day. My hair was frizzy and it was Friday so I didn't care. I think I can keep this up. I will be washing tommorow and doing an aphogee treatment and DCing with 10 en uno.
Okay ladies, I am about to DT with TJTT and some olive oil...But I need to know how to post before pics. Any help?

Duh, I did not see the little paperclip to add the pic yesterday. Silly rabbit! Anyway, that is me on the right.

I've finally gotten around to posting my starting pics. I'm super excited for this challenge but because I've already started the protective style challenge, my hair is in twists. Don't think it will alter the results.
I'm using Coconut oil, Olive oil, Avocado oil, Amla powder and whatever good condish I have on hand as my DTs. I'll let you know if I find something different. I like to rinse my DTs out with brewed Yerba Mate Tea, I saw the tea was one of the main ingredients in the Phyto line for managing frizzy hair and once I started using it I was amazed. It makes my curls spring to life. You can order it in bulk online (in comes loose leaf so you'll need to get a tea press or one of those brewing kettles).
I am expecting softer more manageable and defined curls after this challenge and hopefully some good length retention.

Yestreday i did my first real DT and for the first time I did not have dry ends once i rinsed out! I did not even have to seal my ends after i put in my leave in condish! My hair is still silky, soft and moisturised and i have no fairy knots yet! I am wearing a wash and go this week. I will porbably put some leave in condish on the ends, just to be on the safe side, although they still feel moisturised.

Here is my mix. I plan to keep this blend and do it once a week. I will maybe add some hibiscus powder for extra conditioning.

4 heaped tbl Amla powder
2 heaped tbl henna
1 heaped tbl fenugreek
2 1/2 heaped tbl kapoor kalchi
Avocado oil
Water

I left this on for an hour and rinsed out - my hair was silky and soft to the touch. I did not really need to co-wash but i did to get the grit out. I then DT with a mix of AO Swimmers condish and shea butter and 15 min of heat. In hindsight the heat and the shea butter didnt do too well, it just clung to any remaining grit i had in my hair, so i wont do heat again.

The result was wonderful- i was so happy and my hair was/is gorgeous. got great curl definition too and minimal frizzies.

Unfortunately, both my digital camera and the camera in my phone are kaput, but i'm working on getting some pics and will pics hopefully after my next DT which will be tomorrow. Something simple like honey and EVVO.

The latest pic I have was taken in Demcember, so i will post that as my starting pic.....once i have found it!

I may have taken a while but here are my starting pics. Length Checks and pics of the braids I put in my hair after my deep condition. I think I am going to try and deep condition with these braids in and see what happens. If not I can always re-braid it. So here are the pics...

Ok, last Wednesday I DT'd on dry hair for the first time and I'm in love. I did it overnight and the next morning, my hair was so soft and easy to style! So this will be my second DT in the week since I already DT every Saturday. This Wednesday I will try adding an oil to the DT and see what that does. But I have questions about participating in this challenge:

1. How do you subscribe to this thread? I read that is one of the things you have to do to participate.

2. Can I post pictures after Feb.2? First, I don't really know how to post pictures anyway. I took a pic of my hair before starting the DTs but I don't know how to post it. Second, my camera broke this weekend and I need to get a new one.

Alright ladies. I DTed twice last week after committing to do this challenge. And I've thought about this for the past few days. Its really not realistic for me to challenge myself to do this twice a week. My 2nd DT was on Sunday night and I didn't dry my hair properly so today its kind of a mess. I absolutely have to use a dryer for at least 20 mins everytime I wash my hair and I don't wanna use a dryer twice a week. I feel like that would cancel out the twice weekly DTs b/c of the heat. There have been times that I've skipped a week (or 2 so I think challenging myself to DT once a week if enough for now. If my hair was in twists, was shorter or I didn't use gel, I'm sure this would be less of an issue. But my hair doesn't dry overnight unless I use heat first, so I just can't do it I wish you ladies the best of luck with this though!

EDIT: if I can figure out some way to dry my hair quicker without the use of heat, I'll be back in!

P.S. if anyone doesn't know how to post pics, just host your pics somewhere (your Fotki, Facebook, Use.com etc) and then click on the pic to get the URL. Right click on the pics once they're downloaded onto whatever site it is. When you right click, scroll down to "properties" and then copy and paste that URL. To add them to a thread type: at the end of it. The URL will start with http:://www. So let's say the URl was icecreamandcandy. It would look like when you type it, but when you submit your post, it would appear in the thread as pics the way QueenOfKinks did it. You could also just add them as attachments but that's how you would do it otherwise Hope this makes sense!
Oh snap...! We are supposed to put in a starting pic? Forgive any errors I make...im on my cell right now.

^ ^ MUCC, I don't see why you can't use a dryer twice a week...do you mean like a hooded or bonnet dryer? Or a blow dryer? I use my soft bonnet dryer sometimes twice a week...depending on how I'm styling & when I wash. I am NOT into going to bed with wet hair. I think if you use a bonnet type dryer that may be better...or is that one of the rules of this challenge?? I haven't had any hair issues using my dryer twice a week. I try to wash early in the evening so I'm not sleeping with a wet head. Lol I know how you feel though. I did a wet bun on Saturday and tonight my hair is still damp.

I just posted a thread about it lol. I think the other issue is that my hooded dryer is a piece of crap. I'm gonna try to get a better one this week. I feel so much better after reading your post. I feel crazy about this lol. Anyway, if I figure this out soon, I'll be back in. Thanks so much for the feedback, CurlyKinkynFrizzy!
MUCC, so gald you are back! Don't stress about all this, its supposed to be fun! Don't forget the main reason behind this challenge is to DT more often - it does not matter how you do it or what you use to DT, as long as you leave it in for at least an hour, DT every week and work on adding and extra DT of 2 to your routine!

We can do this ladies!!!!

Ok, I am cameraless at the mo so, the most recent pic i have is this one, taken at the end of December. Since then my hair has grown 2 inches.

I'm sitting here with my 2nd DT for the week - i've decided that my week will run form Sunday to Sunday. So i wil DT on Sunday's then again on Tuesday or Wednesday and then maybe on Friday too. I want to try and DT 3x a week for the full 12 weeks.

I am hoping for continued length retention, better moisture retention, zero fairy knots, no more dry ends and of course growth!
