HEY!!!! lol
Well I did my big chop this past Christmas. (My Christmas gift to myself lol) My hair is still in a mini afro, can someone tell me when will my hair start to curl and hang down. My hair type is 4a.

Also right now, I only use organic Shea butter and glycerin in my hair because I am in college and there is not any black beauty shops around me, is that good or should i try to use more products

Thanks

How long is your hair? This question sort of confuses me. Curly hair curls, especially tight curls found on 4a heads. Are you asking how to define your curls? What is your hair doing now (since it doesn't seem to be curling up the way you want)? I use glycerin mixed with water (1 part glycerin, 2 parts water) as a moisturizer. Some use shea butter to seal (too heavy for me). Do you also have a good leave-in conditioner that you can use before the glycerin and shea butter? You can try some of the store brands like Suave, Herbal Essences, or VO5. You might also want to try a gel to moisturize.

Since you said you have a TWA, you'll need more length for your hair to hang down. I order most of my products online, but if you are near a Whole Foods, they sell lots of oils, and Trader Joe's has awesome conditioners.

im sorry if my question is confusing. Someone just told me that i have 3c around my edges, 4a, and 4b hair in my middle. i was think about ordering online but i dont know what products to choose first. i guess you can say that im kindof scared to try alot of different products. so where do i start
ahh, I didn't notice the part about hanging down! I can tell you that I am close to 7 months post chop and the curls in the very back and on the sides have started to hang down. All the rest is still growing up and out. The last time I was natural I don't think I got full hang until about 1 to 1.5 years.

It took my hair a couple of weeks.
helloyellow bird, you are lucky lol. i want to do different hairstyles.
but a year is a long time
do twisting you hair helps. cause i do that once a week and leave it twist up for the whole week
My hair doesnt hang down yet, but i think it will eventually. I'm 9 months post big chop, almost 10 months and my hair didnt start curling up until my 8th month. Before it was really undefined, probably from the shock of cutting my hair. You should give it some time. Moisture really helps too. HTH.

Co-Wash: Vo5 Herbal Escapes Moisturizing Conditioner Free Me Freesia With Aloe Extract & Aussie Moist
Leave In Conditioner: KCKT & seal with shea butter.
Gel/Styler: KCCC or EcoStyler for edges.
I think my hair likes cones...
To see curl, i think you may need at least an inch. All people's hair doesn't exactly curl from the root. This is the case with my hair. It starts to curl after it's like an inch long. Hang is a matter of time, because you tend to get hang with length. This is particularly true if your hair is more kinky than silky...as is mine.

Have some patience. I think the key to where you are right now is developing a rock solid, yet SIMPLE routine for hair care. Get to know your hair. Enjoy the wash and go and learn what gives you moisture and what doesnt.

I BC'd in December also and my natural curls didn't start to pop without product until just recently and that was after some good weekly DCs cause my hair was very dry, I have 4A/4B hair.

I'm just now having curls pop up (without product) thanks to DCs. The entire back of my hair is curly and the top is so random (I have ringlets and some parts have no curl at all), but that could be just how my hair is supposed to be. I figured it would be another month or so before I can find out if my entire head is curly or that's just how my hair is, either way I love it!

I think you should also take into consideration your actual length. I'm not sure how many inches you have but it does play a role in your hang. Additionally my hair just started to hang in certain places like the bang area and the nape to ear area. Every place else it pretty much just grows out. I have really thick massive forest hair and it grows straight up. I think for me part of this has a lot to do with my texture, its pretty coarse throughout except in the front. My curls are almost shoulder unstretched, I think once I get there I will be able to have a bit more hang.

I'm 4a,
I big chopped after 4 months of transitioning, but my hair didn't really curl up until 1 month natural. I have been focusing on moisturizing a lot and cowash everyday and baggy 2-3 times a week, and deep condition once a week, and have gone CG.
Shea butter seems to be too gritty and heavy for my hair. Actually, all butters are like that. I prefer a liquid oil, so I use Jojoba. And for a moisturizer, I use Aloe Vera Juice+water+jojoba or just conditioner.
Ganier Fruitis Triple Nutrition has a conditioner that is silicone free and I use that. Good luck!
Shampoo: VO5 Kiwi Clarify Shampoo (monthly)

Deep Condition: Aubrey Organics Rose (1-2x a week)

Co-wash: Aubrey Organics Rose (2x a week)

Protein: Mega Tek (bimonthly, I'm sensative)

Leave-in/ Moisturizer: Vegetable Glycerin-Rose Water Spritz and/or conditioner (daily)

Sealant: Shea butter-coconut oil mixture (daily)

Hair type: 4a/4b?-0S, cottony, thick
I am confused, how do u know ur hair is 4a if it doesn't curl? if you have a mini fro that should be at least an inch long, right? and you don't see any coils/curl?
