My hair doesn't get along with coconut oil but it sure is yummy.

My hair is in the 4s, low in porosity, high in density and coarse.

Love: QB - all of it, Bobeam - shampoo bars, Darcy's Botanicals - Pumpkin Seed Conditioner, Coconut Cupuacu Pomade, KBN - Shealoe Leave-in, Oyin - Juices & Berries, Kinky Curly - Knot Today, Ayurvedic treatments, my Denman and the cloud of kinky goodness on my head that I get to play with!

I love the stuff. It conditions my hair from the inside out every time.

Hey Everyone! I am a 12 year old auburn curly head - just wanting to know if any of you have read the Curly Girl Handbook by Lorraine Massey? I got it for Christmas and it's like my BIBLE!!! It's amazing - all my family and friends have noticed huge changes in my hair. Firstly, I DO NOT BRUSH MY HAIR. This will only rip and tear the hairs, causing even more unneeded frizz!! Secondly, I DO NOT SHAMPOO. They contain nasty nasty sulfates that will damage and dry out the hair. You should all definitely try this book - you will be SHOCKED at all the amazing info in there!
Enjoy being curlicious twirly girlies!!

I don't use it on my hair anymore, but I use it on my face and body still. My skin has never looked better.

I know this is an old thread, but I didn't want to start a new one...

I just bought some Nutiva coconut oil. My hair is fine (but there's apparently a lot of it according to stylists) and about shoulder length. How much of this should I use? If I use it as a deep conditioner, can I just rinse or do I need to wash it out? Would I need to use shampoo or can I use a cleansing conditioner? Can I use it as a styler or do I need to still use my mousse?
Or, do I just need to try all of the above and see what works?

Thanks!
Use it as an overnight pre-poo first followed by shampoo- you need to leave it for 13 hours minimum - then if that works try it before a co-wash the same way and if that works try it as a sealer after your leave-in conditioner but before your styler.

The reason to try it this way is that if your hair is too oily after using it as a pre-poo it's easier to deal with then using it as a sealer. Personally I use jojoba and almond oils as sealers if I both to use an oil as they are lighter but they don't penetrate hair strands.
I use it for the LOC method, as a DC, a sealer and as a daily moisturizer.
