Hello! Hope you ladies don't mind a 3a/b stopping by, but you have this nice henna thread
I've ordered some samples for strand tests from Catherine, but I don't have a real clear plan yet.
My natural hair is dishwater with greys. Started greying at 23. I've been dying golden blonde with Loreal Feria since then (minus a brief stint as a redhead, more on that below). The Feria has lately stopped working on the greys, and makes my eyes water and the house smell like a swimming pool anyway, so I'm looking for a different solution.
I see that Lexie, in some of her experiments, has managed to create a golden blonde mix. So that is one option. It does kind of make me nervous getting the henna/indigo mix right though. I don't want to end up green, or dark brown.
I love the look of deep, vibrant red, and I attempted to go to that once with commercial drugstore dye. I loved the color, and it looked fan freaking tastic on me if I do say so myself, but the color would all fall out in about a week. Considering it took 3 boxes to do all my hair, the upkeep was just way too ridiculous. I ended up lifting it and starting over with the golden blonde. That was years ago, all that hair is cut off now.
I'm seriously considering hennaing all of it red. But it's such a drastic change and so permanent, it will never lift like the drugstore product did. Plus I'll have to shelve all my brown eyeliner and yellow gold jewelry
My tentative plan is this: first, see how the strand tests/skin tests go. Assuming no disaster there, I will at least cassia my whole head and see how I like that. If I liked how the golden blonde strand test turned out, I will try that too. I will buy enough henna so that if I turn out green or something from the golden blonde attempt, I can straight up henna over the top.
