Corinne Bailey Rae -- How to Achieve This Hairstyle?
Hello!
I am looking for a hairstyle to wear to my graduation and I found one that I loved while browsing Le Coil. How could I achieve this hairstyle? My hair, stretched/blow dried, is about the same length as Corinne's in this picture. Maybe a braid out? Im mostly confused about the pompadour-ish thing she's got going on (which is my favorite part!) Help?

Looks like you would need to blow out first, put a light milk or setting lotion in and do a chunky braid out on everything but the camel hump.

I used to do the poof all the time on my relaxed hair. What you need to do for that part is take the front of your hair (depending on how your hair looks you may need to smooth it with a styling cream or gel), hold it up and twist it once (so the hair stays gathered, and I don't mean twist like a two strand twist), then place the twist towards the front of your head. The hair up front should be staying up on its own. Bobby pin the twisted area to the rest of your head and it should stay...did that make sense? With thick hair you won't need hair spray and it shouldn't flop over.

I could probably try that on a 4th day twist out since my hair is pretty stretched out by then. My hair is around the same length too.
I know how to do a pompadour with a bun or a pony puff, but that looks more complicated, LOL!

I can't do a pomp to save my life. This style is so cute.

corrine keeps the best hairstyles. i still think she has one base style (im still trying to figure it out - probably a dry bantu knot out or dry, large twist out) and she manipulates it.

@ Nat, looks like the hump is "braided out" too. It's not smooth
So I would say chunky braid out (or twist out for more curly effect, than zig zag). Then a hump swept to the side

Thanks for all the suggestions! My hair is in twists now, so I'm probably gonna do a test run in a couple weeks to see how it turns out. I will post pictures as well! I'd love to see the pictures of those who will be trying this hairstyle out. I absolutely adore Corinne Bailey Rae--she is definitely my favorite female artists and overall inspiration!
I'm thinking about using Naptural85's method for twisting (but doing braids instead in smaller sections) and then "bantu knotting" the rest, and then stretch it overnight... Haha that sounds like a lot of work, but I'm thinking it might possibly give me similar results...

That is a cute hair style. I don't know why I never put my hair up in the front anymore. I used to ALL the time when I straightened years ago. I gotta do this on my curly hair!
I think I would just fat twist the hair that's down and use a light cream on the pump in the front if I didn't want to go with my natural curl pattern. All that pump is..is the hair folded over to the side pushed forward and pinned. You just smooth the front with a light cream or gel. It's easy as heck to do if you have a lot of volume naturally..if not.. just tease it and then fold it over and back..then pin it.

I absolutely adore Corrines hair and this style in particular, truly my hair idol. In my protective style challenge right now, but I fully plan to rock this as soon as it ends!

Her hair really is insanely gorgeous. I love a good twist out, but I have no real clue as to how she achieves this look. I'm thinking the theories about a blow out + twist out might be on the right track.
