Hi Koukla -- yes, this sounds very much like what MaryAnn did to create lift for me the first time I went to her. I've yet to be able to duplicate this method at home unfortunately. Between my arthritis and my basic styling ineptitude, I have less trouble just clipping close to the root. I'll be making my next appointment with her in the next couple weeks, so hopefully she can give me "clipping for dummies" lessons then.

And TwistedChick, if indeed you are who PMed MaryAnn's info to Koukla, thank you too! I'm in San Marcos, so her salon is very convenient for me!

I describe my method in the pictures, but basicaly I pretend I am going to wrap the hair around my finger, but instead I just create a "hump" and clip it at the bottom. This has worked wonders for my flat top.

Duckbill clipped at the top in a way I'd never seen but I love the result. She took strands of my hair, found the natural loop and clipped the looped strand so the loop stood straight up. This method gave me more lift at the top than I'd ever gotten by just clipping close to the scalp. Hope I can duplicate this at home.
