Hey Diane!
Welcome! I was never able to do a BC either. I was too scared. So do whatever works for you. We all to our own thing, it's ok. Some of us BC, some of us trim while we are growing it out, others are like me and do nothing, just let it grow. However, I think that I may go for a trim this year around Christmas.
