Why are you afraid of curl definers/enhancers? To my knowledge they are not designed to alter anyone's curl pattern. The only ways that I know of that can actually "alter" the curl pattern would be perming, straightening or heat damage. Curl definers/enhancers make the curl more precise, they don't alter the pattern.

You don't mention what type or texture of curl you have. My tight 3b/c curls clump better with butters. They are well moisturized so they don't respond as well to the aloes and flax as much as shea, cocoa and mango butter. Try one, you might like it! If you start with the more natural ones, they should just rinse out without further issues.
