I'm pretty sure that the kind of sedation used with lipo is mild, similar to what you get for oral surgery. You don't need to be intubated or anything.

However, since local anesthetic is pumped into the area being suctioned, it is possible to get liposuction while fully conscious. It feels a little weird, but is not painful at all.

I'd imagine that a tummy tuck requires either light sedation or general anesthesia, though.
