Yours views on coconut oil
I'd like to hear how you all use coconut oil.
Do you use it as a leave in or as a sealant?
You see I'm not to sure whether to categorize it as a sealant, as 'parts' of it will penetrate the hair as a leave in is meant to.. and I've seen many people who use it before they use there leave in.. so I was just wondering how do you use coconut oil?

I use it as a pree po alone or mixed with honey or pepper powder and also as a sealant since leave ins r not so popular here and it's excellent after I wash my hair I take very lil amount and rub my hair n then rinse with cooooooooold water the result is super shiny non oily hair

ive been using it as a base for many of my other oil mixes/treatments. for example, if i use it as a sealant, then i put hemp or argan oil in it as well, or if i do somthing for an oil treatment i mix it with other things.

Coconut oil
I use it for so many things, but typically I use it under other moisturizers, both on hair and skin. I'll use it to seal in moisture on wet hair, then layer a leave-in on top and on my face, particularly now when my skin is exposed to a lot of drying through wind, cold and artificial heat, I will put the coconut oil on first, let it absorb and then use my usual conditioner on top. When it dries, it's like buttah!

I just discovered this stuff and I'm so glad I did!
I'm using it as a night time face and total body moisturizer under my regular lotion. I use it on my hair too. A dab to fluff out a flex rod set OR a decent amount as natural moisturizer underneath my curling creme/styling aid for hold. I love the way it makes my hair look!

I tried this recipe and hated it. Then I tried it on it's own as a pre-poo and hated it. I hate to trim my ends afterwards.

It IS amazing. I just started using it too and am floored by how well moisturized my hair feels.

My hair doesn't like oil enough for me to use it as a leave in. So I just use a small amount when I seal my twists.

I use coconut oil as part of my leave-in.
I just mix a little in my hands along with some Tresemme Naturals Conditioner and a little Biotera Gel and rake it through my wet hair. I finger-twist (a la Terri LaFlesh) and that's it.
My curls are bouncy and shiny after that.

I have a question for you all ; when you use it, do you spritz first ? or do you use it on dry hair if your using it as a sealant? because i used it this weekend as a sealant, and my mom said it smelled like the oil went rancid :/

idk if this matters to anyone else or matters at all but I always make sure mine says unrefined so if I see one that says unrefined I'd prob go with it, idk that exact brand though. I've always only used the same brand

well, "Excellent for cooking" to me means it's refined to handle high heat, which isn't so great for your hair. I've tried refined CO.... not so good (hard, stringy, grody hair). But unrefined? Much better
Look for the smell; if it smells like coconuts, then it's good for hair!
Primarily I use CO to SOTC, or as a pre-poo treatment. I've found it quite effective for de-tangling too...

Yes, I only use it as a prepoo- it seeps in moisture and helps with detangling.
If it is left in my hair I always have to wash it by the end of the week and I only use unrefined and organic from my health food store. I recommend it as a prepoo only. I use shea and castor mix to moisture during the week and there is no smell.
