Conditioning Oil

What is the best oil to use for a leave in? I've tried coconut oil but my hair becomes really frizzy with it. I've also tried olive oil. I think my hair is sensitive to protein as well and I did not know if certain oils were better to use than others?
I am not protein sensitive, but coconut oil irritates my hair because it penetrates the hair shaft and traps protein in the hair.

Make sure the oils you buy say cold-pressed, unrefined and/or expeller pressed. Oils processed in these manners contain the highest amount of nutrients and are less likely to contain synthetic byproducts.

Also, if you're protein sensitive, stay away from nut oils (macadamia, almond, peanut etc.). Instead, try oils such as grapeseed oil or castor oil. Try olive oil again, making sure not to use too much.

well im protein sensitive and my hair loves nut oils. right now im using macadamia and apricot oil. though when i have it i use coconut oil and when my hair is rather dry and fizzy then ill do a argan evening primrose oil mixture, or use hemp oil. do you use the oils on wet or dry hair? right now im using the oils to seal my hair so i use it when my hairs wet. though if i need a refresher then ill use same dry on my hair.

my hair: 3c, high porosity, high density and coarse hair (i think i finally figured that all out)
my hair loves conditioner only styling!
my hair goal length is bra strap length when curly.

Thanks guys! I think I may try some cold pressed evoo again because that's the only thing I have around at the moment besides coconut oil. I usually use it on wet hair. Although I guess I should try putting it on just the dry spots after it dries. Are essential oils mixed with something like fsg completely different from using cooking oils. I know different eos help with different hair properties.

Everyone likes a different oil and you can use any oil. Keep experimenting!

olive oil all day! I do deep treatments with it too. anything else my hair gets dry cos of the protein. i stay away from coconut oil cos i heard of the protein issues people have with it.
I will try the olive oil again when I get some, maybe as a dt. But I've recently learned I'm low porosity. Does that mean I shouldn't use oils?
No, it just means your hair won't take as much as someone with high porosity. My porosity has decreased a lot since I started cg, but it still likes oil.

I use a lotttt of oils on my hair. I use them as pre poos, dt's and neat on my hair for moisture and smoothing. While coconut is a fave of mine, there are a number of others I love too. Here are just a few:

1. Argan oil: this is a must have in my repertoire
2. Camellia oil: Another must; I actually tend to grab a mix of argan and camellia more often than not.
3. Pumpkin seed oil: I bought some because my beloved DBPC has it in it and my hair actually loves it too...I have a HUGE bottle!
4. Sweet Almond: Is ok in my book, nothing to write home about (but ymmv)
5. Peach and/or apricot kernel oil: Also ok
6. Jojoba oil: Never been an absolute fave, but if I mix it in with a pre poo it works well that way.
7: Cherry kernel oil: Same as peach/apricot

YMMV with any oil but all of these have benefits for the hair and scalp. My absolute faves are Coconut, argan, camellia japonica (Oleifera and senisis aren't as good imo) and pumpkin seed. HTH!

I know jojoba isn't a "true oil" but it seems to be my hairs favorite. Its said to be the closest in terms of consistency to our scalp/hairs natural oil.

have you tried the mix? if so hows it going for you? ive just tried grape seed oil, i had read alot about it but had never really tried it myself, so far i really like it makes my hair verrry soft and gives a nice definition as well.
