Shampoo bars

Hi Aussie curlies,

I've been thinking about trying out shampoo bars, since some of the US curlies seem to like them. The only place I know that sells them is Lush, but theirs have sls in them . I'm not strictly CG, washing my hair once a week with a dt, so I was wondering if anyone has tried and liked them.
Also, does anyone know other companies that sell shampoo bars (preferably CG), or that might ship domestically (rather than from the States)?

Hope that all made sense, TIA

Hi, Beauty and the Bees make sls free shampoo bars and you can buy them online here
I have never used them on my hair, but I love their skincare range.

Thanks TassieAnge!

They have a few! I'm exited to try the Rosemary and Mint bar for Brunettes, but the Beer Shampoo bar looks really intriguing as well...

I'll let you know how they go once I try them.

They are gorgeous and you usually get free sample in your order. I've used them on my husband and kids, both with great results.

I've just ordered them both. I usually get Burt's Bees from Myer or DJs, but together plus shipping, these are actually cheaper!
Thanks again for pointing me this way

Looking forward to a review
I have noticed within the last few months that there is a shop at doncaster westfield that sells shampoo bars, perhaps it's called 'lush' or something.

Curlywurlygurly I checked on Lushs website and pretty much every one of their shampoo bars contains a harsh sulphate.

oops! sorry I didn't even check that. One of my friends was raving about them awhile back, just figured shampoo bars didn't have sulfates.duh!

Serves me right for not doing my homework.

So I got them yesterday. I got a Deep Sea Mud sample with the delivery, I think it's for your face?

Anyway, I tried the Beer Shampoo bar yesterday and it smells sooooo good! I lathered right to the ends of my hair (I teach swimming and the chlorine gets right in there), then used 1-2 tbsp of Burt's Bees More Moisture conditioner. After plopping I added a bit of avg and scrunched and air dried.

My hair is shiny, less frizzy but most of all it's really soft!
2nd day hair isn't too bad either.
I'm going to try it again with my usual mousse and diffusing, see if it's still a winner
Also, it didn't feel so moisture sucking the way a lot of CG shampoos do.

ETA: I'll do a review of the Mint and Rosemary for Brunette's next week.

Interesting on the deep sea mud. Can't find it on their site anywhere. Maybe a new product line? Glad the beer bar is working for your hair so well.

No dry, sea weedy feeling? That is what I usually hate about CG poos.
FeralCurls, nothing like that. Not slippery the way conditioner is, but definitely does not have that stripped feeling (like Alchemy :S). It's hard to describe, it's made of essential oils so it's soft when it lathers, but when rinsed out the hairs just feels like... hair.
I hope that makes sense lol.

I find most cg poos either leave me feeling stripped and dry or that I can't get them to mix with my hair. I've got to get back into co-washing.

I'd love to know how you find the poo bars long term - I've heard alot of things about build up etc which has always turned me off them

My hair is so dry (and skin) atm thanks to all the heating...I've even started using my honey suckle rose conditioner again in hope to bring it back to life.

Think you do need to use the vinegar rinses if you use the bars long term. This company does sell a apple cider vinegar rinse. Have to say that does put me off as the only time I tried a rinse it was total agony! Really hurt my scalp.
poor thing feralcurls - i just dislike the smell, when they really don't do much for my hair, seems like a lot of effort to me lol.

ow hope you recovered ok.
Fortunately my hair and scalp have reacted well to acv. I tried the rosemary and mint bar yesterday and today I have nice 2nd day hair! So far no build up but will keep you guys posted.

Hey Aussies, I have been using Beauty and the Bees products for over 3 years now, including the shampoo bars. I love them, they lather well but rinse out really easily. I use the Lemon one.

I did notice some kind of buildup however, my hair would occasionally get stiff, thick and stringy, especially at the back where I would have it in a ponytail, BUT, I never used to condition, I was under the impression that I didn't need to while using the poo bars and I thought the condish was making my hair too boofy so I ditched it when i started using the bars. Now I think that if I had have been following up with rinse outs and co washes I would not have had a problem.

I have been co washing for about a month now and in that time used the bar once to remove buildup, it seemed to really freshen up my hair. I will be using it for a second time tomorrow. I think once to twice a month will be enough for me with my current routine.

My hair hates ACV. I have tried it with all finds of dilutions and it always ends up like straw.

So yeah, long time user here, never really noticed a problem with build up until recently though which is odd. I can't rave about these bars enough, they are so handy to take traveling too, you can just slice off a portion to take away with you.

If you get it in your eyes it hurts like crazy, so be careful with that (if you use it on your kids and it gets in their eyes they will certainly let you know).
