hard hold gel anyone?
Hiya all
wondering does anyone know of a hard hold gel available here, that is reasonably priced? I was contemplating ordering some biosilk rockhard gelee online, I can't seem to find here in AUS though.
Any suggestions?
thanks

I've used the Garnier 24 hr gel in the past with good results, but I had shorter hair then - between chin and shoulder length. Nowadays my hair is much longer and gel doesn't spread far enough.

I'm not a fan of gel so am not much help, just wanted to say I got some BRHG from Strawberrynet a while back - it was reasonably priced, I think, and at least you don't have to pay postage.
(Buying it was yet another misguided attempt to make gel work for me!)

I like Dep Sport Gel (blue). I have used it straight, diluted it with water, or mixed it with oil. I don't think I have ever styled my entire head with it. I think I mostly use it for slicked back hair or to touch up or refresh my curly style.

Problem is most of the stronger hold products do tend to be more 'producty'. The Biolage Gel is pretty strong. The Joiwhip mousse is strong too and I don't normally like mousse either.

Hey, I am new to the boards here. I am in the process of finding a gel that works for me too. It's frustrating. I need something with good hold but wont weight my hair down too much.
I have tried a Garnier one called Rock Hard, I don't even know if you can get it anymore. It didn't weight my hair down too much but I think it dries my hair out. I have also tried Schwarzkopf Taft (don't know which one, in a blue rectangle tube, its a strong hold one) and it really weighed my hair down too much and my waves fell out within a few hours.
Yesterday I tried FSG for the first time and it worked for me. Better than any commercial gel so far. But who knows what will happen today LOL.
I would love to try BRHG but just can't afford it right now. I'm not used to spending money on products so the prices of them really shock me.

Curlywurly - I think there is only the one. Yeah it is a little producty, which is why I don't use it now that my hair is longer. Like Feralcurls said, most gels are like that so I haven't used any for a while.

I need something to hold my waves - they are a bit naughty and like to run away if they have no hold in them.
thanks

i've been using the vo5 hard hold gel for months and months and it was working really well for me, any crunch it left behind was really easy to scrunch out and it really helped control frizz and wasn't drying. My hair has built up really badly now though and i'm not too sure what's caused it, could it have been using the same gel for so long? i'm not sure, but it was working really well when it was working

I had a look at that gel while I was shopping today and nothing stood out to be something that would build up.....I guess anything would build over over time though so maybe you just need a gentle clarifying wash and start over. I have been known to sit here at my laptop with a product and google every ingredient LOL.....perhaps try that and see if there are any hidden cones in it.
So fr the FSG with the garnier over the top is working well for me. BUT....the Garnier gel is really one, a mate of mine used to work for Loreal and it wa a freebie, you can't get it anymore and I had a look at my supermarket today and the only garnier gel they have is a sleep spray in one. Next time I am in town and near my halth food shop I might check out the ingredients in the giovanni gels. I love gel.

i have no idea what it is that's built up, I just washed with shampoo for the first time in ages though and have made some fsg. I'm going to try to stick to using things i make or know for sure don't have problem ingredients in them for a while and hopefully that will help.
I remember the garnier one, I was using it at some point late last year and it was nice. I was hoping to switch back to it so thats a shame that its been discontinued

Goodness, I just went over my last post and i am so sorry for all the typos. It was only early arvo too so I can't blame being drunk.
Let us know how you go with the FSG. I can't get the consistancy right and it's annoying applying it (I am finding little globs of it everywhere once I am done, it's messy) but it works great.

I too could never get the FSG consistency right. I did notice that most of the us curlies use golden flaxseeds, which got me wondering if it made a difference. I asked about them at the health food store, they didn't have them when I asked, but last time I looked they had them. A little more expensive. I have yet to try them and see if there is a difference.

Yeah I noticed that about the US curlies and I had all good intentions of getting the golden ones but was not able to find them I have not looked very hard yet though LOL. I'll look more when I am close to running out of the regular ones.

i've been using just the regular dark brown seeds and have been getting egg white consistency with my FSG. takes a bit of trial and error to get it right tho. This time I soaked my seeds before hand for the first time and the cosistency was a little different and hold was quite hard compared to when I wasn't soaking them. I might see if i can find the golden ones now that i'm all out of the brown ones just to see if it's any different using them.

So when you go to apply it is it easy to get the required amount on your hands? With mine when I try to get a bit out it comes out in big stretchy globs (like thick egg whites I guess) and when I rub it in my hands a good part of it stays together. It's not hard, more like really soft stretchy gum. It's putting me off cos I am standing there freezing just out of the shower with sopping wet hair trying to get this stuff in my hands to the point I can get it through my hair. Once I get it through it does a great job mind you.
I'll try soaking the next batch, did you soak over night? And did you soak in the fridge or can you leave it out on the bench while soaking?

yeah thats exactly what mine is like. really hard to use but great once it's in my hair. Yeah I soaked overnight and just left it on the bench, it came out more liquidy than when i wasnt soaking and i just poured it into my hand but it was easier to rub my hands together and spread it out - once it was in my hand it wasn't as liquidy, if that makes any sense haha, i might have made it wrong though cos i didnt add any extra water to it before i boiled and i think they were saying to do that on the recipe board

I'm due to make a new batch in a few days so I will give soaking it a crack.
