Deva-cut stylists in australia???
ok so im an aussie chick, specifically nsw, central coast (near sydney) if you must know :) anyone know how i can find a deva stylist for my wavy hair around my area? or has anyone near me got one they use? because unless i get kidnapped and taken to the big apple, with $60 in my pocket, i've got no hope :/
all my salons around my area as far as i know don't have deva stylists, or none that i know of anyway. and i dont want to have to go in to everysingle on asking if they have a properly-trained deva-stylist :/ HELPP?? |
Bump.
I hear you... I feel like a bit of a muppet calling salons asking if they know how to cut curly hair. And of course, they say yes but generally haven't a clue. Would love to know if there are any deva stylists in Brisbane. |
You should check out the article Tiffany wrote, I'm sure there's a thread around somewhere too.. About what to ask/ say at hair dresser. I've taken to doing mini trims at home and getting a cut every six months or so... Cos I found a ok hairdresser in Melbourne but it costs more then I'd usually pay.
Dw I too wish I could be flown to the US to get my hair done!! |
Raw Hair
I'm not too sure about Deva stylists but I read an article in an Aussie magazine recently about curly hair. The guy, Anthony Nader, really sounded like he knew what he was talking about. Here's another article of his. His salon is in Sydney.
That's the good news. The bad news is that I looked at his website and it says a cut from him costs $650!!! That can't be right!?! It says a cut from a senior stylist costs $70 though. I haven't been there myself but it might be worth calling them... |

He he... I'd be expecting a head transplant for that price. :colors:
Off topic... thanks for the suggestion curlywurlygurly. The conditioning balm worked a treat. |
princesspie - glad its working for you. I haven't used it in ages (since I started cg), I had a habit of over conditioning with it. Keep meaning to try it again, but I'm being careful with my money atm and know if i buy one hair thing i will go crazy and buy heaps lol!

$650 does sound pretty pricey :/

I'm thinking that maybe instead of ringing around salons in Australia, we should be trying it from a different angle - asking the leading salons in NYC (including Devachan) if they've had any aussie stylists come through and train with them, then find those stylists in aus.
Whaddya reckon? Worth a try? I doubt Devachan/US salons will reply, but it is at least worth a try. Cheers TCG. |
Great idea! Definitely worth a try. If I try sending them a message & you try also, we might get a response. Fingers Xed. I'll let you know.

I emailed Deva yesterday and received this response today:
Hi, Thank you for your interest in Devachan! Unfortunately, we do not have any Deva-trained stylists in Australia as of yet. In case you are not aware, you may purchase our DevaCurl and DevaCare product line through our internet retailer at AVEYOU Beauty Boutique - they offer shipment of our products to Australia! P.S. You may also check out our Deva 3-Step process where we teach you how to cleanse, hydrate, and style your hair to curl~fection. The video is located at Do The Deva 3-Step: Cleanse. Hydrate. Style! - YouTube. So not much help from 'the source'. |
Hi ladies, I recently had my hair cut by Lucas Patterson at Project One Hair in Chippendale, Sydney. He cuts curly hair dry and curl by curl.
I was really happy with my cut and he listens to what you want, asks lots of questions and makes you feel very comfortable. |
Hi JerrY
Thanks for emailing Devachan and posting the response on the forum. I will email them as well (sorry have been o/s) so maybe they can know there is interest downunder... cccurls - thanks for the recommendation. I'll give them a go and let the forum know how it went for me as well (different thread tho). I hope it's okay, but I've also reposted your recommendation in the 'sydney hairdresser' thread so ppl googling it can find it. |
Devachan method in Australia
Hi, I also emailed Devachon. Got a very similar reply to above, except with an added line that my enquiry/feedback will be forwarded to their Training director.
However I will try Project One at Chippendale. Will post my experience on the other thread that's going about Sydney Curly Stylist. |
Great curly hairdresser in Gold Coast FYI

Hi just thought I'd let you know, I've just returned to Sydney from the Gold Coast, but while at the Gold Coast I found the best curly hairdresser ever. Her name's Dana, salon is HairBiz Ashmore Plaza. Cost around $35 for a cut. She's great and has great curls herself. Its too far for me to go unfortunately but if you;re in Brisbane may be worth a trip, cheers Sue |

I went to Lucas at Project One last night and I am very very happy with the results...he knows all the stuff we talk about and really cuts curls perfectly. He dry cuts and will teach you how to style it - lovely! |
