New here.

Hi there, I've just joined up after finding a link (and lots of praise) at another forum. I've been toying with the idea of going curly for a while, but I haven't taken the plunge yet. I want to get my head around the products and I'm having trouble finding much here. I've done some reading on this forum and it looks like I'm not alone with my problem. I think I'm overwhelmed - I'm so confused about what to use. I've been using natural beauty products for years, so I've used Avalon Organics before but I can't find it at the moment.

Today I came across Al'chemy and Natural Instinct. Has anyone tried these before? I've used Al'chemy before and found it nice but I don't know if it's 'safe' for CG.

I posted this at another forum, I'll copy it over:

They both had 'no SLS, no parabens' on the front, but one of them had something about 'coco' in the ingredients list (it was coconut derived). Do I avoid that one? The Alchemy one says 'rice aminos and wheat protein' and at one site it says not to use anything with protein in it, because it could coat the hair the same way silicone does. The Alchemy brand has lots of different types of shampoo (eg Australian mandarin, lavender, unscented, lemongrass etc), Natural Instinct only has one. The Natural Instinct has horsetail in it, which is very high in silica. Is this as bad as silicone? It also has palm wax in it.

Welcome! getting CG products here is challenging!

Natural Instincts is CG. I have used the shampoo but can't use it often as I have some allergy issues with it. I don't find it washes really well. I prefer Mastey Triate.

The Alchemy brand is too stinky for me to try (allergys again.

From Health food shops I have had a lot of success with Graham's conditioner. Costs about $12.00. I use it as my co-wash and then use Biolage conditioning balm.
Alchemy's cg too, I use it on and off - it's kinda turned into my "fall-back" conditioner as I know I can always rely on it when I haven't got something else lined up to try! I can't remember names but the one for long hair is the one I usually use and there's an unscented one for sensitive scalps which is very similar (and really is unscented, Feralcurls).
I tried the NI one but didn't like it much - not moisturising enough for me.
Protein's OK cg wise - it's just that some people are sensitive to it, like me, it can make your hair feel really dry and yuck. I can tolerate it in small doses but that's all so I generally try to avoid products with too much in.
I dread to think of the time I've spent in shops just reading labels, it's quite embarrassing at times but needs must!
Good luck with it.
3b in South Australia.
Thanks for the welcomes

I found the Loreal Elvive leave in, plus the Pears dry hair conditioner. I found some gel which didn't have cones, xanes or conols in it, so I think I'm set to go.

Wish me luck!!

(I posted some 'before' photos yesterday if you want to take a peek).
Welcome to the boards
Good luck with CG. Random question: in which shops can you find Natural Instinct and Mastey Triate?
Fine and thin 2C in Australia
I'm haven't been on much recently, but thought I'd welcome you as well.
I use the Alchemy range, the sensitive scalp shampoo (I'm mod CG) with no scent and the Macadamia and Wheat Protein conditioner. It does have a really strong smell but i like it, it's kinda like nutmeg
2b, medium, lots of them

Natural instinct as far as I know is available at priceline. If its the one I'm thinking of the brand has white bottles with a navy blue logo etc on it. They have their own section in priceline, usually near the hair care section. The only thing I've tried from this brand is the face cleanser which I found too harsh for my skin, and rather smelly.

Aiming to grow hair to waist from buzz cut - slowly but surely.
Natural Instincts is available in most chemists too. Is pretty easy to get hold of.
