Curl Creams+Definition!

I just can't seem to find a product CG that's good at defining my curls!

All of the conditioners I use leave my hair lank and horrible

(I miss my sunsilk!!)

Does anyone know of any curl creams/leave ins that are good at getting definition into your hair - or any conditioners in general that do this??

Any help is huuuugely appreciated
Well I'm not sure I can help much but I leave most of my conditioner in (I only rinse out for literally 2 seconds to get the excess off). So after applying a big amound of cond. in my hair, I let it sit for 5 mins or so then rinse a tiny bit out. I use Pears conditioner but enhance it with honey & EVOO. Have you figured out your hair needs like if your hair is fine/coarse or high/low in porosity? I heard that really helps to find what you should avoid or look for when looking for products

Btw, I think a leave-in is kind of useless when you can use your regular conditioner. Leave-ins are just watered down versions of conditioner, so you get all the benefits by using just a regular conditioner as a leave-in.

Thanks for your long reply! Do you use the moisturising Pears? My hair is pretty moody which is not good! It's not coarse but it tends to get a little frizz on top and just really lank and dull! I've never mixed EVOO or honey into conditioner before!

That might be the reason your hair is looking dull atm? Maybe the products you're using just aren't working, I've been there before, lol. I'm so sorry I can't really recommend anything....for me moisture is the key, that's why I don't use any curl enhancers or cremes, because I hydrate my hair before hand w/ condish and leaving some in is like a creme or a base itself. xo

Hi silken curls,
I agree with alannah on that you need to figure out what your hair needs....
but never the less I've also found the technique I use to put in my conditioner makes a huge difference in definition...
I find this process useful (well i use to when i had enough hair!);
rake through conditioner with fingers in shower, then following with wide tooth comb to detangle. Then i grab some more conditioner and scrunch it through. Let it sit for as long as it takes for the rest of my shower, rinse and scrunch (some have had success with upside down rinses and scrunches). Then I add some more conditioner or leave-in and scrunch in with my head upside down while still in shower.

in terms of curl creams i've had luck with both re:coil and jessicurl rr (i got recoil online and rr in petra) - if i'm using a curl cream i scrunch in after leave in while still standing upside down in shower.
I have heard good reports about mop - c curl cream which is usually widely available here, bit pricey though.

i then towel dry...scrunch and plop if i feel like add scrunch in gel, towel dry/ plop again then defuse or air dry.

I did love biolage conditioning balm and there is a gel in that range that apparently is good at adding definition to curls. I have also noticed that giovanni products are popping up around the place alot more.

Thank you both for your advice I think my hair is a little dry - mainly at the ends. I've heard good things about Pears moisture care conditioner.

Where does Biolage sell? I might check out their gel and products
I'll have to try the upsidedown method!
you can get biolage from hairhouse warehouse, price attack of the like, and some salon also have it.

curlywurlygurly - That's similar to what I do. But I smooth/rake conditioner through on both sides of my hair to condition & detangle, and sometimes I take more and scrunch it in (I think I saw that technique in one of the DevaCurl vids on youtube).

I also find that rinsing upside down has helped a lot since my hair doesn't get 'plastered' to my head, lol. It ends up with more definition and since it's set free and away from your head it gives it a better chance to just do its thing.

And the moisture care condish is nice and light but when it's enhanced it becomes richer with heaps of slip and more moisturising. The scent rocks too!!! When you add the honey it smells like honey coated nectarine kinda

I think i got my technique from one of the other curlies on the boards...and then just personalized it to what my hair likes.

over winter when my hair was shorter i found the pears moisture care a bit heavy for a daily co-wash, to me it's similar to suave tropical coconut but has less glycerin which is better for me.I might give it a re-try over summer as my hair is beginning to feel drier.
