well i'll chime in anywho. I take the GNC MSM 1500 tablets. There is powder at most pharmacies and health food stores these days - I just can't handle powder. I'd much prefer a tablet i can just swallow once a day.
Yeah I'm no good with powdered stuff...*screws up face at the thought* haha
umm, I'd say I've been taking them since maybe dec last year. However dec/jan I was really slack with them as I was away on holidays a lot and didn't want to lug them around with me. Jan/Feb I was really consistent with them and got about an inch growth. Of course I cannot say 100% that it was completely due to the MSM.
I have also found that my hip (I had a arthroscopy a few year back and have scaring in my articular cartilage) has been feeling a lot better - It usually gets sore when I stand to much of start something new, but it's been pretty good.
No complaints. Oh I should warn you, the GNC tablets are rather big. I personally, don't find them hard to take though.
My Boyfriend calls my multi-vitamin and B complex my "horse pills" lol
So far with the msm I find I can only take it once a day - and early in the morning or I won't get any sleep....
I made the mistake of thinking it wasn't having any effect on me at all...and I had read somewhere that it absorbs in through your skin so a few nights ago I mixed up some into my conditioner and slathered my scalp with it - massaged it in and left it on for a couple of hours
That night I got very little sleep and when I did I had awful dreams !! , my dreams have been quite vivid actually since I started taking it, not really anything I can remember but a couple of times it has been a relief to just wake up !!
I guess I'm having a major detox
So all together I'm taking a Multi, B Complex, MSM, Biotin, Hair skin and nail supplement and vit C.
It's only been a few days but I can't wait to see if my nails start to grow in thicker in a few weeks
haha that's exactly what my bf calls them too - horse pills.
I think I remember some people commenting about having crazy dreams while taking MSM, but I'm not exactly sure where it was.Maybe do a search? I've had no side effects with it, that I can remember. I have some MSM cream somewhere which I used when I had an allergic reaction to some conditioner and shampoo (I believe red colouring is the evil) it's meant to be soothing - I tried it on my head once or twice.
I'm currently taking a multi, MSM and chlorella. I was taking amino acids but swapped to experiment with chlorella.
I've always wanted to see how biotin fairs with me, but I'm so nervous it will break me out. I have reactive/sensitive skin that breaks out easily and apparently it's a common side effect. I know it's a silly worry but it feels like I've finally kind of got my skin under control and I'm afraid to tip the boat.
How have you found the biotin?
My nails grow so fast atm and they are alot stronger then they use to be. I've got to trim them back almost weekly depending how annoying they get.
I'm taking the Swisse brand Hair skin nails supplement, it has 2.6 mg biotin, and Natures own biotin that are 300mcg (which I think is equal to 3mg ?)
I have always had clear skin though, even when going through puberty I only got 1 or 2 pimples at "that time of the month"
My nails seem to be growing faster, though it's probably just wishful thinking ....so I put a dark polish on them yesterday so I can see if they really are growing or not .
I'm not expecting to see any real results for at least 4 weeks yet....then the tape will come out and I will be measuring my hair again LOL I'm crazy I know.
I measured the day I started the biotin at 12 and a half inches, the msm was started a few days after that, can't wait to see if it works !!
Maybe I'll try adding biotin next month - don't want to add too many things at once otherwise I'll have no idea what caused what. There's biotin in my multi but not much (I'm trying to finish of some centrum multi's that I bought awhile ago before getting given a whole heap of free swisse vitamins (which were better!))
Doesn't help that I treated my skin as though it was really oily for ages when it was actually sensitive and over compensating cos I was stripping it bare of oil all the time. it's settled down since I've started being more gentle - one of those DUH moments.
I can't measure my hair with a tape - too hard, too short. That's why I started with photos, can't argue with those.
my fringe/bangs are pretty much at the end of my nose now and my mullety back is sitting at T7 - that bumpy bit at the back of your neck. I was gonna even it out once it got a bit longer, but now I'm not so sure - i got greedy for growth and was thinking it'll just look like layers once it grows some more. I have plenty of time to contemplate though.
right now it's too short for me to even see my ends to see if they are going ok. They feel fine though. I have a few pairs of hair scissors i bought awhile back, so I scan seek out and destroy any splits I come across - i get this weird self of satifaction from it (well I use to, haven't done it in awhile). I just hate having no style to it - it's so blah. Wish it would hurry up and grow so I could just bun it for most of the week and just forget about it so it'll grow while i'm not looking. haha.
Everyone's different but I have yet to experience any side effects. You can look each supplement up on google if you want to know more.
As I stated above some people have problems with biotin breaking them out but apparently if you take with other b-group vitamins you're ok.
I'm guessing if you stop taking them, your hair growth will slowly go back to normal once the mineral/vitamin has been depleted from your system. I find when I take MSM continually I get goo growth, where as I get slower growth if I'm not so consistent.
With the biotin I get no side effects at all but with the MSM I had my dose a bit too high and it was disrupting my sleep and giving me terrible lucid dreams, since lowering the dose this has disappeared (Thank god!!)
