Marilyn Monroe's hair

How do you think she did it? Do you think that was her natural curl? Or roller set?

Just curious. :)

It's a pin curl. Go onto YouTube and type in vintage pincurls. Tons of videos in how to do it. Vividvideo has great tutorials on how to get that look

She did have wavy hair. You can see it in older pictures. Her hair was so bleached and processed that it probably held style fairly well.

I remember seeing a photograph of her with her hair in rags. I think that was very common at that time.

Pin curls were most common in the 50's and early 60's. Some used rag rollers, but they only worked well if the hair was fairly long. They were mainly used earlier than that.

Rollers began coming into use in the late 50's. When I was a little kid, about the time Kennedy came into office was when I remember seeing women at the "beauty parlor" with the smooth plastic rollers or setting their own hair with either the metal spiral rollers that were covered with plastic mesh with the bristle brush inside or less often with pink foam rubber rollers - Basically, when, thanks to Jackie Kennedy, more bouffant hairstyles became popular instead of the curlier pincurled styles.

It was nothing back then to see a woman running around town with her hair in rollers or pin curls so it'd look good later for a night out.
