In Defense of Gabby Douglas' Hair

My apologies if this has already been posted. I looked but didn't see it posted elsewhere.

In Defense of Gabby Douglas' Hair | Team Mom - Yahoo! Shine

I cannot believe the ignorance that some people are spewing regarding Olympic gymnast Gabrielle Douglas' hair. This girl is a 16 year old phenomenal athlete who has won TWO gold medals. But some women still felt it necessary to take to twitter and tweet about how horrible her hair supposedly looks. Excuse me? She is in an athletic competition, not going to the prom. I hate how sometimes it seems like women are so quick to tear each other down. And few things can make the pettiness come out with black women more than the topic of hair. I am extremely proud of this young sista, and seeing this kind of ignorance really just made me shake my head. You're sitting on your butt watching TV while she not only competes but wins two gold medals, and the first thing you have to say is "she couldn't do something about that hair?" Sometimes we are truly our own worst enemies. When will we lose that crabs in a barrel mentality?

Gabby's got a full hairline, and I'm willing to bet most of her "critics" can't say the same.

What's wrong with the girl's hair? She ain't on the red carpet. She's on a balance beam. Why she gotta have "done" hair?? That sounds stupid from all angles. We go at little kids (Zahara Jolie-Pitt), teens and everybody over that hair. I tell ya'.

People are too ridiculous for words.

We shouldn't even have to be defending her hair. I'm livid.

You got that right. I don't see a thing in the world wrong with her hair. It's thick and it looks healthy. She has it pulled back in a bun/pony just like all the other female athletes. But certain folks act like she's supposed to have it meticulously styled like she's stepping out for a night on the town. One of them had the nerve to say "Gabby is cute and all, but that hair....on camera." As if she's supposed to be ashamed or something. Know what else is on camera? Her two freakin Olympic medals! I watched her perform, and she really is exceptional. How anybody can watch her and give a rat's a.s.s about her hair is beyond me.

I don't really get it at all. What's wrong with her hair??? I'm not seeing what's wrong.

it isn't about her hair at all, though I thought she had great hair and I'm sure she i a wonderful young lady, and athlete. unfortunately I did not get to watch her but I am sure gonna find a video.
