It really all depends on the nature of your own hair and, in the event that it would take heat/chemical processes, the overall health of your hair and what you're willing to do to get it to look like that (assuming it's possible).
ETA: Oh you know I just saw your post about this in a different forum and it occurred to me you might try using a flexirod set, which could work, depending on your hair type - those work w/most hair types. Since it's a wet set that you can dry overnight, you wouldn't have to use heat or chemicals :D
