I Love Oprah But I'm Sick of Her Lace Front Wig!

Well Oprah's hair doesn't bother me at all. I know she has worn weaves before..she's said it on her show and had no problem stating so either! She said she doesn't do it often but she just likes to have fun with a different look. Sort of like she did when she had that Tina Turner wig made and wore it on her show a few times. I have seen her don a lace front before but it's not to the point of over the top. Plus the styles she gets are age appropriate. Like anyone though she has bad hair looks.. if any of us look back in our hair history we've all had looks were we've said, "WHAT WAS I THINKING!" LOL!

Oprah has worn her hair pressed or relaxed almost her entire career except when she had that issue back when Andre Walker first started doing her hair because her hair had been burned out from a former stylist that gave her a perm for Caucasian hair. That was MANY years ago though.. so her hair not being "natural" should be nothing new.

I've seen Oprah's real hair several times on tv, in magazines, and on the internet. And she has A LOT OF HAIR. And I don't think she gets it relaxed anymore.. from what I read she's pressed. And not to brag, but I have wig, weave, half-wig, extension, and lace-front raydar. ROFL. Oprah wears her OWN hair more often than not.

Her hair is lovely and Andre takes GOOD care of her hair. And I HARDLY think Oprah after openly discussing being raped, molested, being promiscious, etc and sharing some of the most intimate details of her life in front of MILLONS on tv would lie about if her hair was fake or not.

I saw an interview once where Oprah says during her down time she likes to wear her natural hair braided because she doesn't like to mess with her hair to much. Which gave me the answer to why I kept seeing her in photos in mags when she wasn't taping with braids. I've seen her hair braided many times in those mags and she does have a lot of hair and it doesn't look relaxed AT ALL . She definitely has 4b hair type and it's thick and healthy!

Oprah AND her hair rock! And I don't blame a lot of celebrities for wearing wigs, weaves, extensions, lace-fronts, half wigs, etc. ESPECIALLY for women of color because my goodness all the messing with the hair one has to endure in Hollywood.. a sista would HAVE no hair! I collect black hair care magazines like no one's business and every single female black celebrity that I've read about when asked does she wear fake hair..the main and number one answer is always similar to: "YES, to protect against the damage that would occur to my real hair because of all the styling!"

Even non-black women are catching on to this as well... Jessica Simpson, Ashlee Simpson, Eva Longoria, Jennifer Lopez, Paris Hilton, Misha Barton, Cameron Diaz, Kristina Aguleria, Lindsay Lohan, Selena Gomez, and even Miley Cyrus! They have ALL had extensions.. so would even some celebs you wouldn't believe wear them occassionally like Reese Witherspoon, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Kiera Knightly...

I mean heck just about every Caucasian celebrity hair that Ken Paves has styled has donned fake hair at one point or another.. LOL! He seems to love sticking in clip ins or apply weave some how.. ROFL.

Last point about Oprah..one needs to keep in mind that she's 55 years old (around my own mother's age) and when she was coming up it was common for black women to press their hair out or have it pressed out. If they didn't have what some in the black community call "good hair" they pressed it until like the 70's when rocking the Afro was popular. Many black women born and coming up during that time still have the mentality that their hair should be pressed out to look "decent" and so it can be styled "easily". I mean heck..black women in 2009 today STILL think they have to be relaxed, pressed, flat ironed, etc to look decent. And now these lace-fronts, weaves, etc are an extension of that...LOL.. "an extension of that..".. ROFL..
Actually Oprahs hair is real. Please refer to her website, she actually released a statement saying she was upset people kept asking about her "wig or weave". Its hers, theres actually a video of her stylist styling her natural hair. And people even if people have a certain curl grade, stylists most often will straighten the hair and either style larger or smaller curls.
IT IS SO SAD THAT PEOPLE ON A NATURAL HAIR SITE CANT GET THEIR FACTS STRAIGHT. OPRAH'S HAIR IS REAL IT HAS GOTTEN LONG, AND SHE DOES NOT HAVE A LACE FRONT OR A WIG. WHEN SHE HAD CHRIS ROCK ON A FEW WEEKS AGO, SHE LET HIM RUN HIS FINGERS THROUGH HER HAIR. THERE WAS NO LACE, NO TRACK NOTHING. IT IS HER HAIR. I JUST DONT UNDERSTAND WHAT THE DEAL IS WITH THIS SITE SOMETIMES. LORD, BLACK WOMEN CAN AND DO HAVE LONG THICK HAIR. GET OVER IT.

Hey, I'm here to say that I love Oprah (I tape and watch her show everyday) but I'm sick of her lace front wig, or weave, or whatever it is. The last time I remembered, Oprah had beautiful, thick hair, probably 4a/4b.

Maybe she should join NC and release the the wig to free her hair and show the world that curly/kinky hair is beautiful.

PS: I don't want to hear how busy she is because she can afford to have her hair styled everyday!
What do you think?

It also looks pretty natural to me..she seems to just get it "pressed"..well flat ironed.
This is an interesting topic for several reasons. I am always surprised when ppl don't know which celebrities wear lace fronts b/c so many of them do. My personal opinion is that Oprah's hair is a lace front. This is partly b/c I've been told this by several hair stylists but mostly b/c it looks like one.

I think some ppl are just more familar with weaves and lace fronts and thats why we can spot them. I know a little about lace fronts b/c I was going to get one at one point. I did quite a bit of research and spoke to some hair stylists about it.

FYI, if you have a lace front and somebody runs their fingers through it, they will feel nothing. Tracks only occur with a weave- and FYI I've had weaves done where you couldn't feel the tracks. Lace fronts are virtually indetectable when done right if the hair is good quality. It is glued to the skin around your forehead, nape, behind your ears etc. Your natural hair is usually braided underneath but the way in which the wig is put on, you won't be able to feel the braids (if done correctly). With a good lace front, you can wear ponytails and even corn rows. Its extremely versatile.

I think its possible that Oprah has long hair but the hair she wears on TV doesn't look like it grew from her head. Esp the ringlets. It just screams lace front to me. I am fully aware that black women can grow long hair as I'm one of them. I'm also not "mad" that Oprah wears a wig. But I call a spade a spade. Maybe that's her hair in the pic/video with the orange headband but the headband is an odd touch if she wanted to "prove" her hair is real. People often wear headbands to cover the line where the weave hair and their own hair meet when wearing a sew in.

I think some people get annoyed when people bring up these topics with a suspicious tone is b/c they don't understand where they're coming from. Granted, some ppl take it too far and care way too much about other people's business but a lot of times, people are just curious.

Moreover, there's a real emotional component to it. People get tired of celebrities having seemingly perfect physical qualities and have a need to prove this wrong. How else did the Beyonce pic with glue on her face end up floating around the net? Or the one where she has an inch of hair in a ponytail? It *does* bother people.

But its also just an interesting topic of conversation. I don't think anyone's saying anything bad about Oprah so it is what it is. That's my 2 cents!

You must have missed a few episodes. Not only has she said her hair is REAL, but she showed a photo of it in it's straightened state and her friend Gail exclaimed "Yowza!" because her hair was so huge and thick!

Also, when Chris Rock was on, he felt her scalp and discovered it was real as well!

1) it LOOKS fake and the headband pic doesn't help (anybody who has worn a weave knows about using headbands to conceal where your hair and the weave hair meet. This is like "weaves 101"

and

2) several stylists have told me so. Its common knowledge in many circles.

But this is silly. I was just trying to make a point b/c most of you don't seem to know much about lace fronts and therefore can't fathom that its actually a wig. Understandable. I've engaged with this too long anyway lol.
It's Oprah's real hair. In the past, she has shown her relaxed hair before Andre styles it. It's no way that was a weave. Her hair was huge and sticking up in multiple directions. She has lots of hair. However, it isn't as smooth as she wears it. Her hair is naturally kinky without a visible curl pattern.

To me, it makes absolutely NO SENSE for Oprah to divulge some horrible things that happened to her including her own battles with weight, emotional issue, rape, molestation, promiscuity... and HIDE she wears fake hair at times.

I mean what does she REALLY have to lie about. She's not stupid.. she knows women wear weave all the time.. nothing for her to really be ashamed of... so I think she would just say it.

I remember when Ellen was one the show and Oprah TOLD her that she had a weave on and she got Andre to do it since Ellen had been going on and on about weaves before. They made a joke of it and stuck all kinds of crazy things in the weave and let Ellen take them out. It was to be funny.

Beyonce's hair looks pretty real in various styles (not all) .. but you can tell when she's wearing a lacefront, a weave, clip ins, or a phony pony if you know how those things are applied. I don't know I guess I don't see the big mystery with them.
Most women in entertainment wear some form of fake hair at times; some do at all times. Oprah isn't one of them. ITA w/ Marah. I don't see what the big deal is with entertainers wearing fake hair. I think it is just odd when you have people who are not in the entertainment industry that wear fake hair and have no idea what their real hair looks like because they rarely see it. Maybe it's because it's not common for most women, the way hair dyeing is. There are women who really don't remember what their natural color is because they dye it so much.

I LOVE Oprah!!! And her hair looks Fabulous most of the time...BUT...I always thought she wore a lace front or some type of weave. I assumed this because most women with type 4 hair in that field (Hollywood and the like) usually do b/c our hair can't take the constant styling. I don't see anything wrong with it. I would probably wear fake hair if I had to have it styled to perfection every single day or everytime I was in public.

Now, if she says its real...it very well may be...I still have my doubts. And having these doubts does not make me or MixedupCurlyChick jealous. It just means that Oprah would be an exception to a well known rule in the community of ladies with type 4 hair.

They took the YouTube video down, so I couldn't see the TWA.

I didn't believe Oprah's hair wasn't real until Perez Hilton or someone showed a close up of her head on a very bad hair day, and I saw tracks, so I don't think she's wearing a lace front. Then again, consider the source and photoshop.

If she's wearing real hair that didn't happen to grow out of her scalp, they handled the transition from short to long very, very well because I honestly thought she'd grown it out.

She may go short or natural once her show wraps, if she decides not to continue to be on the air. *shrug*

That was Oprah's real hair when Chris Rock ran his hands through her hair. He said that he didn't feel anything. Oprah said that she wear extensions and wigs sometimes to give her real hair a break. Beyonce has nice hair, too. That picture that somebody was talking about. It was obvious that Beyonce's hair was in a bun, even in the pic. How are people going to say the top of somebody's bun is how long their hair is. I saw other pictures from that day from the side it was clear she had her hair in a messy ponytail/bun. Beyonce's real hair is nice, too, She shows it a lot in behind the scenes footage. Beyonce even showed it on the cover of Vogue. Additional proof that just because Beyonce wears extensions and wigs doesn't mean that she doesn't have long hair. Because Beyonce does. Also, I don't know why black women are so notorious for wearing fake hair. Because white and non-black women wear fake hair all the time, too. The lacefront was created for white Hollywood stars to wear in the 1910s or 1920s and they've worn them ever since. Then, the extensions were created for them later. I've seen everyone from Marilyn Monroe to Sophia Loren rocking a wig.
I saw that Chris Rock episode too. She does have long hair but she did say she went back to relaxing it because it was too much to deal with for straightening.
I can't count how many times people have thought I was wearing a wig if I straighten out my natural hair or if i was wearing locs. Once you have taken care of your natural hair for a while it is very thick and long in many cases and then people think it's fake. I don't doubt that O may have donned a wig or two over time but what you see most of the time is her own.
I don't know if anyone saw the episode with Chris Rock when he was promoting "Good Hair", he said she had a nice weave and Oprah said it's her real hair, and he ran his fingers through it and she even combed her hair with her fingers to show there were no tracks. Her hair is real and healthy
