Question Ion Color Brilliance

Has anyone used either the demi or semi-permanent color from Sally's?

http://www.sallybeauty.com/demi-perm...cgid=Hair05-02

Both have decent reviews but I'm curious if anyone on the boards has used it. God knows I need all your opinions before I can buy anything, espeically something as risky as hair color

I've only used the permanent color - and it is wonderful! Makes your hair so shiny and silky. I can only imagine the semi and demi are just as great.

I had a very bad experience with it, and when I told my stylist I'd used it, she said she hated that brand.

However, I will say that I used it on top of boxed color, and the results may have been affected by that. Yet I've had very good experiences with boxed color, so.....go figure.

I would say it depends on whether you've got color on your hair already, and of what type.

Thanks for the replies ladies! I think it's either going to be Ion or Wella Color Charm. I liked the Wella when I used it (over 6 yrs ago), so I was surprised to see Ion got much better reviews online.

The shine was nice, I can say that. It was just A LOT darker than it should have been.

Oh lord, that's scary. I'll definitely keep that in mind.

I'm a dark brown girl - but I had to use medium brown in Color Brilliance.

Good call Ninja.

I just used the semi-permanent version of the Ion haircolor, and although it's a little dark I'm happy with is overall. I'd had my gray/brown hair grown out about 2 inches, the rest of the length still had salon color & highlights in it.
The gal that works at my Sally said that this brand tends to end up darker than what's on the box plus curly & highlighted hair tends to grab color more easily so she recommended 1 shade lighter than I'd wanted. I'm glad I followed her advice or I'd be very unhappy right now. I've gotten tons of compliments on it already, and it's only been 2 days!
I see it's been a week since the last post so I don't know if you've already colored it or not, so if you haven't yet, best wishes. If you have, hope it turned out the way you wanted!

WELLA WELLA WELLA WELLA!

IMO a much better choice. I've used both Ion Color Brilliance and various other products of theirs and then Wella, and by far wella was superior. I've used both brands to lighten, and I've used both to darken. Ion wasn't as good as Wella when I was going a lighter color, and when I've gone darker Ion wasn't as rich and faded REALLY fast compared to the Wella comparative product. Every time the Wella color turned out more accurate than the Ion.

Whatever you choose though, good luck!

Whew! I am so glad it worked out for you Suzigirl. I ordered from Sally's and my color should be here soon. I'll review a few days after I color. I'm glad you're happy with the results!

aislin- I already ordered the ION!!! I am really nervous, but here's how I'm making myself feel better:
1. I got demi so I know it will fade completely out of my hair. If I hate it, it will only be about a month and then I can re-color.
2. I painstakingly picked out 3 different shades to try and create the ideal color that's not too dark. Also, I've had my hair pretty dark before and I don't really mind.

If the overall process goes well then I'll definitely try the Wella next time to compare. The reviews online were what swayed my decision this time

After trying both Wella Color Charm and Ion Color Brilliance (both demi), I like the Ion more, because my hair didn't feel damaged afterwards. Plus it doesn't stink as bad.

I hope the color works/worked out well for you. I wish they didn't all run so dark.

It's been over a week since I dyed with Ion and I've washed a few times, so I think I'm ready to give my opinion

Overall, I like it. It is definitely dark, but not so much that I hate it. I mixed three different shades (lighter than I would have picked if I hadn't read reviews) to try and achieve the color I wanted. It did not create the color I ultimately desired, but it's a pretty shade and it fully covered my grays. I used the pre-treatment spray they recommend and I tried to be "professional" about my application. I used a brush and did my roots first, pulled through the color for the last 5 minutes or so...no patches and the color looks completely even.

I will say that my hair was pretty shiny once it dried. I also had great hair/curl for the 3 days before I washed again! I didn't even have to put it up because it looked so good.

All in all I am happy with it, but I think I'll try Wella next time just to see if I can get a better color match. We'll see how long the Ion lasts before the grays start to show
