medium brown hair to dark blonde

In about a couple of weeks I am going to get Revlon Colorsilk Dark Blonde to slowly make my hair blonde. I have went back and forth from medium brown to blonde countless number of times and I have always been happy with the results. I never had to go to a professional to get it done. I am going to start with dark blonde then eventually go to medium blonde then light blonde.
Great! But I'm curious why you won't start with a lighter one right away, this will minimize the potential of damage, you know...

O, really? I never really thought of that, I guess. When I did it before, I didn't do it gradually- I went right from medium brown to REAL blonde. Nobody that I know knew who the heck I was because of the drastic change. I didn't know that going blonde slowly could cause more damage. I think I'm actually probably going to wait until summer to do it anyway. Four months ago I was blonde but I dyed it to medium brown. I got ALOT of compliments when I dyed it medium brown- everyone said they like it better medium brown so I don't know if I want to go back to blonde or not. But when I was blonde I had compliments then too but not as much as now. I think it is because I know how to take better care of my hair now- with no shampoo. If I go blonde again, it shouldn't look as damaged because of knowing how to really take care of my hair. it has NEVER lokked so healthy- I love it!!
Do you think doing a DT once a week is good or too much? I use olive oil mixed with my conditioner and leave it in for an hour and rinse out.
Look at this way: you'd be applying strong chemicals on your hair only once as opposed to 2 or 3 more times.

I'm interested in knowing how were you able to "go back & forth from med. brown to blonde" before. Did you use a s/p color and is that what you used to go back to brown? Although Colorsilk could lighten already colored hair it won't be much, in some cases the relatively low amount of pigment could actually darken very porous hair so what I think is that if you colored in 2 weeks you'd have by then about 2 1/2" of new growth which would lighten more than the rest.

If you get more compliments with the med. brown wouldn't you think that maybe you look better with it than with the blonde? Just a thought...

If your hair doesn't seem weighed down or the strands don't separate but clump OK then you can keep doing DTs 1X/week.

Actually about 1 year ago I had it bleached blonde and I did go to a professional just to get the roots touched up. It got to be too expensive and very damaging. So, I just went to Walmart and gor Revlon Colrsilk- medium brown and colored over the bleached blonde. Then a few months later I wanted blonde again so I got Revlon Colorsilk Ultra Light Blonde and I think from having it bleached, the boxed blonde colr kind of pulled the bleach blonde color back out. Yea my rootsd might have been a slighly different shade of blonde but it still looked ok. I don't know what it would look like now- that's why I'm kindof afraid to try it. I know the bleach blonde didn't fully grow out yet- I just don't know how much bleach is still in my hair. I think I will just keep it medium brown. If I ever do decide to go just a little lighter, do you have any suggestions? I would like to keep getting the Revlon Colorsilk because it is cheap. Thanks
I was thinking of the dark blonde you first mentioned when I said it could darken but the ultra light is the one I've used to pull out excess color AND go down one more level. However, keep in mind that just because going back and forth is easy to do, it doesn't mean it's really good for your hair to repeat it several times unless all the old hair has been cut off.

You said you had the bleaching done a year ago, since we grow an average of 1" of hair every 2 months, in one year you've only grown approx. 6" so unless you cut your hair pretty short sometime this year you would still have bleached hair at the ends (and, of course, the longer your hair the more inches of it there will be).

My suggestion for you to go a little lighter next time would be just to "paint" highlights with the Ultra Light blonde but you'd have to either have cut the old hair off or calculate where it starts to apply the color there first and later to the new growth.
