ninja dog- okay, I get what color you're describing. I could see how the 111 would be too dark. The 110 is lighter- did you see that one? I used to use that one before switching to the 111 back when I was using box dye.

jbaybayy- can't wait to see your results!

My favorite box dye ever was Ultress 5RR True Red- did anyone ever see/use that one? It was perfect for me, but of course, was discontinued. I am still trying to match that color!

I just read about Wella koleston perfect colors- lots of beautiful reds. I am considering the 55/44 shade for me. Has anyone tried this line of Wella color?

jbaybayy- how did your color turn out? Any pics??

Today at Sally the unfriendly saleslady told me that I need 20 vol. developer if I have any grey. I'm about 30 per cent grey. Could I use 50/50, 20/10 (i.e., 50 per cent of both 20 and 10 volume)?

Opinions? Input?

slivola, I'm going to look at that 110 right now. Also, I bought some color conditioner to try out in between colorings, since I'm starting to fade. Wish me luck!

I'm not sure if you can mix developers like that because they have different concentrations of developer in them. I think I heard that the 20 volume would have to be diluated with water to make it a lower volume, but I'm really not sure on the ratio. Have you ever visited the makeupalley.com hair boards? There are a lot of stylists who visit those boards who could tell you what to do if nobody here knows the specifics.

What brand color conditioner did you try? Let us know how it works!

Good idea re: makeup alley. I've done some swaps there. I'll check it out.

Looked at the 110; closer, but not quite the vividness I get with L'Oreal's Red Penny. Thank you!

The brand of color condish I bought is: Riveting Reds by Quantum. I haven't tried it yet, so if you know it's not good, please warn me!

jayarecurls- I love your red!!

ninja- I agree the 110 isn't as vivid- it's a more natural look. Why don't you just stay with the Loreal or were you just trying to experiment?
No, I haven't tried or heard anything about that color condish. Let us know how you like it!

ninja- next time you go to sally's, check out the clairol professional line (comes in bottles or creme- I use the cream). The 4RR color might be good for you. It's very much like a vibrant penny color. Too dark for me so I use a little of it mixed with a lighter/brighter 5R but I wonder if that 4RR might be a consideration for you?

Ninja, I have both the shampoo and condish of the riveting reds. I didn't really like either of them. I never noticed it helping color fade, and the shampoo NEVER made my hair feel clean. I still have about 3/4 left of both bottles, so if you end up liking them, I'll send em your way!! They aren't cg friendly, which is why I stopped using them, because normally I would just truck through until they were gone so I don't waste. So if you're cg, keep that in mind!

Default Henna

Just like all those chemicals, you can be alergic to plants as well. Case in point, I was cutting and dead heading daffadils and other bulbs last night. Boy did I have the itches.

I tried henna in my youth and got rashes from it. Thought it was color stain until the bumps started. So, try a test patch.

Default cola red...

so I just caught on to this thread and thought I'd share too... I'm still "Experimenting" with some of the cherry red cola - it's Feria - but I've always loved the color! it does fade quickly though, but lasts me about a month...

This is what I'm going to try out soon:

My hair is naturally medium brown, with red tone in the summer.

The line is discontinued but it was pretty well received, and this shade in particular people were loyal to. There's one vendor that I know of who still has some (through Amazon). I'm not that savvy with coloring but I get the impression the Hydrience line was gentle.

I've heard some negative reviews of Garnier Nutrisse but I do like the intensity of the intense auburns they offer. Really pretty.

I wish they wouldn't discontinue certain colors/lines.

sew and sew- that color is beautiful. I heard that line was a good one. My favorite was discontinued, too. Ultress made a color called 5RR True Red that I adored.
