Well, I don't know the chemistry of how this happened, but in using L'oreal to match my natural color today (about the shade of a penny), I wound up with streaks and lights and darks. It doesn't look bad (I hope), but wth?

It's been a little over two weeks since I last touched up my roots and bangs.

How do I get my penny color back?

TIA

You can call a L'oreal color consultant for free professional advice. The # is 1-800-631-7358 Mon-Fri, 9 am to 7 pm EST.

I always TRY to get different shades and streaks when I die my hair with L'Oreal. I use at least 2 different shades at once to achieve this - so maybe I always look crappy with this effect and didn't realize or you have gotten a modern look that looks better than you think.

Good luck - let us know how it turns out.

It turned out that my stylist friend fixed it for me. I was scared to follow the L'oreal people's advice, which was to dye it yet again. My roots were hot, and I was scared they'd turn even brighter, while the rest simply broke off.

Ironically, my friend used the professional L'oreal in the same color (red penny), but we had to do it twice. (The first time she mixed it with another shade, but it still came out too light.) Between her kids, her nutty boyfriend, and her easily distracted mien, it took hours and hours. No exaggeration.

Sometimes I really wonder about this obsession I have with my hair. I know I'm not getting over it, but it sure is a PIA.

Thanks for listening, curly friends.
