mixing 2 colors

I use 2 colors of the same brand when coloring my hair because lt brown is a bit too dark and dark blonde isn't quite brown enough. My question is...actually I like to use a bit more than 1/2 tube of lt brown and less then 1/2 tube dk blonde. Any tips of how measure when I can't see through the tube, lol and its hard to just guess. Thought others might have had the same problem and wondering what you did? Any tips appreciated.

First of all, be sure they have similar and compatible base colors. For instance, a violet based brown + a yellow based blonde will give you GREEN.

How can you tell what the base color is when you're buying e.g. L'Oreal from the drugstore?

I use L'oreal too but I buy it from Sally Beauty supply. The little bottle says what the base color is right on it. May be if you open the box and look at the little bottle it will say on there?

Also, there is usually an 800 number on the box, I know, a pain when your'e standing there in the isle, but I've done it, give it a call and ask the rep before you purchase.

Thanks, I'll do that. Any suggestions on how to measure out of the little tubes of color?

I's usually 1:1. The little color bottle is 2 oz. so mix with 2 oz. developer, etc.

When I buy it in the box, there's a tube of color, developer and conditioner. But when I want to mix 2 colors as I said, its hard to know how much color I'm getting out of each tube. Say if I'm using 1/4 dk. blonde and 3/4 lt ash brown. Because the color is in tubes and you can't see through them its just a guess in how much you're using. Am I explaining this right?? Lol And I like to save the color for next time so I can't just take all the color out of each tube. Its about $13 for each box so I try to be able to use twice. As long as the developer isn't opened in any way then its safe.
