Default Got highlights, Hair Breakage =[

So day before yesterday, I got highlights in my hair. She said she would need to lift the color out of my hair, and I was a little weary of this. The last time I got color lifted, it looked super brassy. This time, however, my hair started breaking. It's only a little bit so far, but I have a feeling it'll get worse.

My question is, should I get my hair cut shorter than it already is? If my display picture is visible that's how short my hair is now, and was taken before re-highlighting. Or should I just go with it and condition it like crazy? I know for sure I'm going to reduce my shampoo usage. Any help is much appreciated =]

P.S., I'm mixed by the way, I don't know if that makes any difference

Have you tried to protein treat to see if you can stem the breakage first? I don't have color, but from what I have read on the boards, that has helped others avoid cutting the whole thing off and starting over.

Not for nothing, but was the "she" you are referring to a licensed professional stylist?

Whenever there is a "lifting" of color, I've always thought there was supposed to be a "depositing" of color that follows. Not sure if you just left that part out.

I just got my highlights done (had some of my existing highlights lightened a bit) about a month ago and my stylist followed my highlights with a deep moisture treatment before she styled my hair so be careful with going straight for the protein as that could potentially cause additional dryness on the areas that are frail.

She did add a toner to my hair, but I think it's just dyeing it in general that is making my hair break. After this color grows out I'm sticking with my natural color.

Until then definitely try to keep your hair well conditioned and moisturized to help try to minimize further damage/breakage.
