Default Can coloring your hair change your curl pattern????

hi everyone,
a few weeks ago, my friends and i were talking about dyeing our hair. one friend pointed out that coloring changes the curl pattern. i want to believe her but her hair was already colored when i met her and she has a regular coloring schedule so i dont know her real curl pattern. can you give some insight?

thanks!!!

Yes and usually not in a good way. I can sort of mimic the look of heat damage, like some of your curls may not curl up like the rest of your hair. My sister lightened her hair and while the color was growing out she had to use a tiny curling iron on some parts of her hair to make it match the rest of her curls.

oh wow...it may work out to my favor tho. i have a 4c curl pattern and it may help loosen my curls. did anyone with 4c color their hair and if so, what was it like afterwards. also if anyone had any experience with natural henna, your opinion would be great.

thanks!!!

Whaaaat? I wonder if that's why my curl pattern is so loose at the crown of my head.

Yes, it does. Even some Semi-Permanent (Clairol Beautiful Collection Advance Gray Coverage Formula) can loosen it & that's why I stopped coloring...Hello Grays!

I never thought about this! I have a partial highlight that I got done about 3 months ago during which time I never wore my hair curly, only straight. This is probably the reason that the curls of my underneath layers are so much more awesome than the top layers. And it would explain why I have some strands of hair that really do not want to curl at all! I wish I would have know!

The salon color I've been using (don't know what it is) definitely calms my hair and makes it less frizzy. I can tell when I need color without even looking at my roots; my hair gets poofy and hard to manage.

I have heard some people complain that Clairol Natural Instincts makes their hair too flat. That's what I loved about it! (I can't use it, though--doesn't cover gray well enough.)

i heard henna can loosen it but it depends sometimes it doesn't happen in all cases. I am actually going to try henna-ing tonight and see how it goes.

Tons of whirls and curls and coils on my head. My hair's sometimes my best friend and other times we're at odds. But either way it's curls to the end. No need for a relaxer cause there's no reason to stress, my tresses are at their best

It's weird. Henna loosened the curl pattern.. more so at the root. I has gotten longer too though so I wonder if the length is affecting the root curl more now. I should probably get it cut.

It's bouncier, and with the discovery of how amazing plopping works for me, It actually seems curlier if that makes any sense.

YES!! And I regret it to this day. I am still growing out the color.. I dyed my hair red and beacuase I wet my hair daily the color never stayed. So I continued to color it.. I might as well have used a relaxer because it straightened my hair. So be very careful, I will never color my hair ever again

Yeah, I'm still thinking about coloring my hair.. but I keep going back and forth deciding on whether I wanna go through with it or not because I think my curl pattern will loosen. My mom says to strengthen your hair, i.e.. a good protein treatment. So, what about people who are protein sensitive?

That's a whole 'notha' post I guess... lol
