never dyed before, not bleaching, CG, not going to a salon, probably just highlights.

Hey, so I was gonna try and see if I could convince my parents to let me dye my hair when my birthday comes (soon). I was thinking probably a dark or bright red, but maybe dark blue or purple. (your opinions would be helpful there!)

So, I don't want to bleach, I was thinking either Manic Panic or Splat (probably manic panic). what are some tips to make the color stick out as much as possible?

also, is it CG? like would i have to shampoo my hair afterward? i was thinking i might shampoo the parts I dye before, so that the dye will get in more.

And, I doubt I'm dyeing all my hair (it's way too thick and long) so I was thinking just dying some individual curls? And I don't know if I should do any of my bangs at all. I know that if you're just dying part you wrap it in aluminum foil but how careful to you have to be about washing it out without getting it on the rest of your hair?

also any other tips would be helpful.

here are a few pictures of my hair

It doesn't look like it in the pictures but I also have really green eyes, which was why I thought red or purple might work best.

Thanks in advance if anyone answers..
I'm 15 now but I don't get on often so I may be 67 by the time you read this.

I come on here when I want hair advice because if you type in "curly hair" anywhere, all you get is advice on how to curl it. I used to get on here a lot when I was like, 12 or 13 (and first figuring out how to stop straightening my hair without being bullied), so if you happen to see some older posts of mine, shh. No judging.
Manic Panic is deposit-only, and your hair looks like it's pretty dark. If you want a little flash of color, in strong light, you'll be fine. However if you want people to really see that you've got ____-color streaks/curls, you will have to bleach the parts you wish to dye. At least 3 levels or so for noticeable but subtle, and as close to platinum as you can get for ver bright streaks.

For reference, when I was using Manic Panic about a million years ago my hair was decidedly medium brown--probably 2-3 levels lighter than yours. I could get very subtle highlights. I had to bleach for drama.

Rinsing is quick and you don't need to be careful about getting it on surrounding hair while rinsing. If you're only doing a few streaks, you'll probably be fine but note that if you do many streaks, or a large portion of your hair, MP is a MESS. Like, a friend did hers red and her shower looked like a slaughterhouse, m-e-s-s. It also (IME) bleeds every time you get it wet, so it's a bit inconvenient.

I have dark green eyes and I've always been partial to violet, personally. Plus it looks great surrounded by dark hair.
oh man...my parents would never let me do it if i couldn't clean it up. does it stain your shower when you rinse it out?

hmmm. my friend said something she used was pretty subtle and even though it was messy it was easy to clean...i might look this up more.

thanks!

Going true red (or any vibrant color) is always going to make your shower look like a crime scene, but it's usually not too bad to clean up. Just make sure you're vigilant with cleaning up the area where you applied the dye as SOON as you go to sit with the dye to process, because there's a good chance it'll stain your sink if you don't take care of it quickly.
