Default Adding Protein to a Rinse?

Is it safe to add protein (i.e. unflavored gelatin) to a semi perm color? I did my first (since I've been natural) semi perm color this week. It came out fine, but it was so messy and hard to use. I'd like to add something to the color next time to thicken it. Will that affect the composition/chemistry of the color? Also, how often can you put semi perm color in your hair? I predict it will wash out within a week and 1/2 from the day I put it in.

i believe after a week or two and ive heard you should never do a protein treatment (also includes adding protein) before coloring your hair becuase it wont stay for long/be absorber but you should after so i recommend against it

Lo-poorganix Shea butter shampoo
Co-wash: suave coconut
Rinse out:GFTN/GVP conditioning balm
Leave in: GF daily care spray leave in
Serum-like product: still need one
Gel:LA looks sport gel/ HESMU,GFPC
Oils: olive, coconut

I think I'm normal-overly porous, medium-thick hair(although I see fine hair too), love protein

Well, I didn't wanna do it as a PT...I just wanted to thicken up the color so it would be easier to use. Are you saying it would prevent the hair from absorbing the color if I cut the rinse with protein?

I don't colour my hair yet but I don't know if the above statement is correct. A lot of people on these boards regularly use the Colorful Neutral protein filler from Sally's as they are coloring their hair.
Colorful Products - Colorful Neutral Protein Filler 1.2 oz.

Quote:
  • Equalizes hair porosity for even color absorption and development
  • Repairs previously damaged protein bonds
  • Protects hair against new chemical damage
  • Seals color within the cortex
  • Adds body, volume and a lustrous sheen
Ensures marvelous color results. Repairs previously damaged protein bonds and protects hair against new chemical damage.

Can be used to make an "excellent protein hair reconstructing conditioner" by diluting it with 1/3 water.
just another viewpoint which might have added to your confusion!
