Your choice of hair color is up to you.
The time it takes to dye hair depends on the porosity and condition of your hair, the products you use and the color you want to achieve.
The best products to dye with are whatever products you feel comfortable putting on/in your body.
The process should "go" depending on all of the above. It is different to lift and deposit color than to just deposit color. It is different depending on how many shades of lift.
If you are not even comfortable picking a color to go on your own head, I think you should hold off until you can decide and own your decision. If you cannot take the time to think about it thoroughly, then you should get a picture of what your want it to look like and take it to a professional to decide if it is feasible and if the upkeep would work with your lifestyle.
