I have 3b/3c hair and I have colored my hair over the years, sometimes letting it go for awhile, while other times coloring it every few weeks. I have used box color (big, big, big NO!), semi-perm and permanent.

I read somewhere that semi-permanent lasts longer in curly hair, which is weird, I know. But, I tried it out, and it does have merit. I used one from Sally Beauty Supply, which was a dark brown, almost black, way back in June (it's January) just to add some dimension. Since then, I have colored it several different shades of red, and it's still there! It won't go away!

Meanwhile, permanent color seems to fade in 2 weeks.

I have also used several different types of funky colors by manic panic and they have all lasted about... 2 weeks.

Gah! I need help!

Has anyone else had this trouble?

How are you caring for your hair while you have the Manic Panic in? Co-washing? Shampoo?

When my hair was bleached and SFX nuclear red (pre-CG), I added a few drops of the color to my palm and mixed it with my conditioner before applying. That helped retain the color some, but of course bright red is still hard to retain. :-/

I read in Ouidads book (ages ago) that curly hair grabs and holds semi perm colors, so that's all I use (she's kind of my guru!). Semi color lasts and lasts and lasts in my hair, so I haven't gone back to perm color. I use Loreal Professional.
