Default Semi perm came out too dark

So I was tired of my highlights...I used the darkest brown which is probably similar to my natural color. It came out way too dark. So I've been using my no sulphate shampoo...everyday which I wouldn't usually do trying to lighten it...it may have a little...but it still kinda looks black...any suggestions?

Back on Cones,so now my routine is,wash with Deva No-Poo every other day or so. Occasionally use 365 sulfate free, maybe use low sulfate shampoo mixed with conditioner once every two weeks are longer. I condition with Aussie Moist or HEHH. I style with a little GF TN,and finish up with tons of GN Pure Clean Smoothing Cream. No frizz...slippy, happy hair.

Alas, this is very common with semi-permanent color, as it doesn't lighten, it only deposits color which means it ADDS color to the hair. This is why one should always go a shade lighter than one thinks one wants. That said, you might have to temporarily bump up your shampoo to a clarifying one and wash frequently - it will help lift SOME of the color. Or, you might have to go back to your colorist for some correction, especially since you mention you had highlights. Highlights take added color differently from the rest of the hair because the bleach used roughs up the cuticle more, or so I've read anyway. Colorists make a lot of money off of home coloring jobs gone too dark. Beyond lightening it up a little by using the clarifier, etc. actually fixing the color in such a situation is best left to the colorist because one can easily make things worse at home. Best of luck!

Thanks....I will try clarifying shampoo every day for a bit. It needs to fade eventually right? I mean it's not perm...otherwise I'll live with it...I'm not gonna have her fix it...she'll scold me...lol. Every other time I did semi perm it did eventually fade

Try baking soda! It's supposed to help strip the color a little.

Prell (available in any drugstore) is a strong shampoo that I used when I dyed my hair too dark. I've also read that you can use diluted dish detergent like Joy.

Either one will make your hair straw, so you will need a really good moisturizing conditioner like Beauticurls afterwards.

Some people say lemon juice (diluted) will lighten your hair - I don't know about that.

If you know a really good salon that specializes in hair color you could try that. Louis Licari in NYC saved my hair when it was dyed a totally disastrous color.

Also, try different makeup until it lightens up. I've been through this. Sorry you are going through it now.

Thats why they tell you to go a shade lighter with box color. Dark brown will come out almost black, medium brown is dark, light brown is medium, etc.

Take into consideration that it will fade, wash several times with dish soap or Prell. Dont use color preserving products, and do a lot of olive oil deep treatments. The oil will fade the color. Honey is known to lighten too.

Good luck, and next time, always pick a shade lighter

I definitely will next time use a lighter shade. I have some clarifying shampoo at home now...tomorrow I'll see if I can find a travel sized Prell. I think I'll put some olive oil in tonight and wash it out in the morning. Hopefully that can fade it a bit faster...

Head & Shoulders shampoo, I've never tried it, but I've heard from many people they wash it with H&S, and the color got less dark. But It will make your hair feel like straw, so you might consider a deep conditioner treatment afterwards.

The olive oil make take a few days to a week, but then, poof, it'll be lighter.

We'll see..it's still wet now so I can't tell what color it is,but as I was rinsing the honey and oil out the water in the shower had a brown tinge. Also then when I shampooed with clarifying shampoo I also noticed a brown tinge. I'll get a travel sized Prell today...and see if that works tomorrow. I'll put more honey and oil in before I go to bed tonight.

Ok...it's a tad bit lighter and I can even see where my highlights were...I think I want at least a shade lighter tho...so I'm gonna do the honey/evoo thing again tonight...and wash tomorrow with some head and shoulders I got.

You may want to stop and let it gradually lighten the rest of the way on its own. It sometimes surprises you and all of sudden lighten a lot.

Yeah...I think I will now...cause I do wanna grow it so drying it terribly isn't gonna help me. I may not even mind the color as much if it were longer. So other than occasionally shampooing with suave lime clarifying...im gonna go back to my normal routine. I'm waiting for it to dry now...wanna see how much last night honey/oil treatment did
