Yes you would have to bleach your hair unless you wanted just a tint of red, for color treated hair you use a lot of moisturizing products and if you can do protein treatments to repair the damaged hair and use color safe products. For red hair you might want to avoid products with glycerin, because they could increase fading. Red is a color known for fading fast, so it is pretty high maintenance. Now I'm not a professional but I have had my hair dyed red before, several times. So do plenty of research because I'm not a professional, I'm just a girl who's hair has been almost every color of the rainbow trying to help.
