Default Gonna use semi perm dye again

So it was that time again. I used some semi perm today but it was too red looking. I've read it's safe to do again after a week....and the color isn't awful...I can live with it a few days. I do want to cover the red....and make it a darker truer brown. Last time I tried that tho....it came out way dark and I had black hair for a few weeks. So what's the rule? A shade lighter that u want to avoid it being too dark? Any suggestions on what to use?

Back on Cones,so now my routine is,wash with Deva No-Poo every other day or so. Occasionally use 365 sulfate free, maybe use low sulfate shampoo mixed with conditioner once every two weeks are longer. I condition with Aussie Moist or HEHH. I style with a little GF TN,and finish up with tons of GN Pure Clean Smoothing Cream. No frizz...slippy, happy hair.

I never knew they had semi permanent lightening dye. How does it work?

It's not lightening....it only darkens. I have these red highlights in my hair that I try to cover. This time I used Natural Instincts brown...and u didn't come out too dark

Does coloring hair cause damage or is there a non damaging permanent method or one that lasts a long time?

I haven't really noticed any damage and my hair is pretty healthy. It's supposed to last about 28 shampoos....but considering I don't use sulphate shampoos I think it lasts longer for me

How do you do it and are there any things you should or should not do before and after doing it?

No, it'll darken regardless. I used a light golden brown semi to try and lighten, forgetting that you couldn't, and i still got black hair.

I have read that a baking soda wash works- make a paste with BS and water, rub it on your hair, you leave it in for 20 mins, then you follow with ACV, rinse it slightly cut with water through your hair, and leave it for ten minutes before shampooing. Then tons of condish after! I have also heard that Head n' Shoulders dandruff shampoo will remove dye. My niece works at a hair salon, and she suggested using a semi-permanent dye that contains purple tones, because purple + red makes brown.

You can also use some John Frieda or other brand shampoo for blondes, that is also supposed to tone down red and enhance brown...

I haven't tried any of these things, but I don't think the baking soda/ACV rinse would hurt, nor would the for blondes or dandruff shampoo. Not so sure about dying hair in purple tones though ;p

It actually turned out good this time...the shade I used...darkened but didn't make it black...it covered the red and looked pretty good.

Before when I tried to lighten right away...head and shoulders did work...so did honey treatments for a while.
