How much would bleaching damage my hair?
 

I'm really into dying funky colours. I never dye my full head, but I'm considering adding another dyed section. My hair is 3a, blonde, thin, and medium p- I forget the word... Porous? It starts with p! To dye, I always bleach the part I'll dye first. How much do you think this would damage my hair? I really want to dye it, but the last thing I want is to be balding by the time I'm 30 or something X_X can I do this without destroying it?

I'd say to wait until folks who've done funky colors chime in, but I'd say it's not worth the damage. :( I'd recommend you get to a place where you're happy with your curls first, since your hair will be more challenging once it's damaged.

I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND bleaching your hair I bleached my hair to do my whole head before and to do an ombre (the ombre is better because u can always cut the ends off) ... If you must there are some things I will recommend though 1. Deep condition deep condition deep condition, I cant express it any other way before u bleach it deep condition it every week before so if I were you start deep conditioning now 2. Dont re-bleach meaning, do not bleach the hair A SECOND TIME over hair that has been bleached I am not a professional but I can honestly say I am pretty good at coloring hair my hair has never fallen out and I've never made anyone elses hair fall out lol... I get compliments from hairdressers about my coloring too, if you have never bleached I will tell u this your hair will be dry, maybe even brittle the curls may become limp so definitely condition condition condition thats why u should deep condition prior to bleaching so with that being said I hope this helps :)

It's funny you mention ombre because I've been thinking whether I want to try that in December or not. On the other hand, I am trying to grow my hair and I don't want to damage the ends! Decisions, decisions....

I'd suggest using deposit-only hair color if you want something not too damaging... I hope ladies with more hair dye experience chime in! I have experience with (and love!) henna, but that's permanent and not as versatile as what you're looking for.

If you choose to ombre just use semipermanent dye (the kind that washes out over time)

Oh yes of course, because dye is a chemical yes there may be some type of effect on ur curls and a little dryness honestly Ive never experienced that with dye ONLY w/BLEACH but nothing a deep condition cant fix and maybe a little trim but it shouldnt ruin your hair... If you are sensitive about dying your hair which Im assuming your not u can just dye your hair deep condition it and be fine (I usually deep condition a little more throughout the week if I dye it) if u are a little sensitive try henna like poema or semipermanent dye just read directions watch some youtube videos lol you'll be fine !

It's a lie made up by the hair-dye companies, it never really washes out (semi-permanent ;p) my advice is DON'T BLEACH! really...just the fact that they used chlorine bleach as a weapon of war during the second world war would be enough to dissuade one..I have a friend who has bleached and dyed her hair to the nth degree, and seriously. Her hair looks disgusting. But she still does it. It's like an addiction or something. I mean, it breaks off and everything...it looks like sticks and straws...it is very sad :(

I did it and I can say that the dark part of my hair ranges from 3b to 3c and the bleached part ranges from 2b/c to 3a .-.
If you love your curls, don't bleach 'em ._.

Um, question - if your hair is already blonde, why do you bleach before you dye? :scratch:

It is an addiction and even ppl with their natural haircolors want to change it up lol, im waiting for my ombre to grow out because I want ny natual color thank GOD ombre is in because my hair color is literally half way down my hair lol but honestly the semipermanent color will wash out maybe not COMPLETELY BUT it will I have 2 friends who used it recently due to the fact they wanted something less damaging and I mean once you chemically treat your hair or anything of that nature your hair isnt gonna be 100% the same as it was before

Alot of blonde ppl do this I think its because its not that specific blonde color they want lol i.e golden blondes platinum blonde etc

Exactly what color are you trying to dye your hair? And yes the word is porous I still dont know what that word means :p but back to the hair color hmm i think I know of a dye you could use without using bleach hmmm let me get back to u on that

Right, but she said she doesn't color her whole head - just the one section - and she makes it a funky color - why not just put the funky color on the already blonde hair?

Seems like bleaching brown hair before dying black - it's just an unnecessary damaging step. :dontknow:

I actually thought of that now if its just one section and its already blonde she doesnt need to bleach just dye over it depending on how light her hair is now also makes a difference if its purple and shes going to green she needs to rebleach lol but i think u can use a 30 or 40 developer and it would work

Aha! That makes way more sense!

And I agree that you do not need to use bleach to remove semi-permanent color. A paste of baking soda, clarifying shampoo & very hot water also helps.
