How much henna for waist length thick hair?

Hey yall. So I ordered some henna and amla to dye my waist length hair with. I have already done strand tests, but I am wondering how much I need for my waist length (when stretched) hair. I have 500 grams of dye total (amla included). Should I mix it all or just 400 grams?

Gosh, I'm not really sure how much you'd need for waist length, but I'm sure Mehandi.com and HennaSooq have estimates somewhere. If you have a freezer, you can freeze left-over dye-released henna and it'll work once you thaw it...

I'm guessing you have 400 grams of henna and 100 of amla? Are you using the amla for curl retention or color?

I am using the amla for color. I mixed 300g henna and 100g amla and it was way too much. I think I am going to henna my friends black hair sometime this week though, so it wont go to waste. I think I only needed 200-300g of dye. :/

The first time I henna'd with BAQ henna powder I made the recommended 200g for collar-length hair and had quite a bit left over. The second time around I estimated 133g (a baggie and a third) and it was just right! :) Trial and error.

Did you like your results though? How'd your color turn out?

I lovvve the color! :) I think I am going to post pics in the main forum. It's a deep red/auburn.

Another question though, how long does it take for the henna smell to wash out of your hair. I did my second wash today and it still smells like henna. :P My boyfriend accurately labelled he smell as "fish food."

LOL Yay, it's a grassy smell and I've noticed it plays better with some product smells than others...(Henna+the citrusy Oyin Honey Hemp=:confused3:) I'd say it takes a week, but it probably depends on how often you cleanse your hair. Can I asked what you mixed your henna with? Some liquids, like red wine, can contribute to the problem. I've heard adding powdered ginger or cardamom to the mix can help.

Glad to hear you like the color! :love1:

The smell is mostly gone after my second wash. I mixed with lemon juice. I will definitely try adding some ginger next time though, as I'm not a huge fan of the smell. :)
