Default Question about dyeing my hair with dye containing silicones? Urgent Answer Needed :)

Hey,

I'm on the CG Method and currently use Garnier Fructus Strength and Shine conditoner.

I recently bought Clairol Nice 'n' Easy Non-Permanent 79 dark brown hair dye which lasts up to 8 washes.

Creme Colourant Ingredients;

Aqua, Ethoxydiglycol, Aminomethyl Propanol, PEG-50 Hyrdogenated Palmamide, HC Blue No. 2, Carbomer, Disperse Blue 377, Citric Acid, Lauryl Hlucoside, Disperse Black 9, Parfum, HC Yellow No. 2, Lignosulfonic Acid, Cyclopentasiloxane, Disperse Violet 1, Erythorbic Acid, Dimethicone, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Benzyl Salicylate, Panthenol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein, Sodium Chloride, Quaternium-15, Methylparaben.

So basically I was wondering cause this contains a couple silicones in it, do I have to wash with a pre-CG shampoo after this and start the whole process again?

Or will it be fine just to co-wash it? Cause I don't want to end up with y'know the horrible build-up feeling on my hair.

Thank you!

For the amount of chemicals in this colour, I don't think it really matters if you shampoo once after colouring. Any kind of color will disrupt the hair shaft somewhat. That means you've had to do some kind of 'damage' to the natural oil layer on top of the hair cuticle.

So if you are wanting to stay pure to being CG, you can't really colour treat your hair.

That said, why the heck is it so important? The point of curly girl method is to not damage your hair so much. That is nice, but if you don't like the colour of your hair, I think you can balance that with a tiny bit of damage you will get from a non-lifting gentle hair colour plus one non-sulphate shampoo.

Be reasonable with yourself and enjoy your hair!
