Talking What is in semi-permanent hair rinses that defines my curl pattern?

I use the Kiss brand of semi-permanent hair rinse because my natural hair color is a faded/dusty looking black/brown that makes me hair LOOK dry even when it's not. Whenever I do put the rinse in my hair, my curls POP. I go from the usual frizzies to really defined coils (they literally almost look like small dreadlocks) and I was just wondering what could be in a semi-permanent rinse that has this effect on my hair

That's really interesting. Sorry I can't answer your question, but I can say that the same thing happens to me when I color my hair using Colorsilk (permanent color). The curls, from a distance, start to look like I have tiny locs. I've wondered why this happens as well. Anyone out there have a theory?

that's very interesting! I have very fine hair and have wondered whether colouring it would give my hair more structure...although I like my natural colour so would be scared to wreck my colour...

Yeah, I definitely wouldn't recommend coloring your hair just to get this effect, especially since it isn't lasting (at least for me, it only is like this for maybe a week, at most).

If you have fine hair & want to give it tighter curls and more structure, a protein treatment is the way to go!

I'm guessing it's SEMI permanent and there aren't as much harsh chemicals. I use Naturtint sold in health food stores like Whole Foods. My color lasts pretty good for 2 months (I have a lot of whites to deal with) and don't have my scalp on fire. I have a very sensitive scalp and this brand doesn't have amonia in it which is why I think my scalp doesn't kill after coloring. I have hair loss issues so I have to watch how I cleanse my scalp and color for it not to irritate my scalp and maybe create more hair loss from my angry scalp.

Forgot to say that usually after hair color my hair isn't as curly but because this isn't harsh like otc brands, it comes out basically the same.

Oh wow I noticed this too! Even using my henna treatments my curls seem more defined.
