Default Does highlighting your hair change your curl pattern?

I just washed my hair today because I decided to start wearing it curly, after wearing it straight for years. I got my hair colored last September and I was wondering did that have any affect on my curl pattern? My hair was 4a/3c and now it's 3b. I'm not sure what happened, but I miss my coils. Help?

It could. You could also have heat damage from straightening our hair all the time.

I highlighted my hair last summer & my curls were fine. It all depends on the state that your hair is in prior to getting it dyed.

But it's true that straightening your hair so much could have had a huge impact on your curl pattern. In order for you to have the curls you used to have, you're gonna have to wait for your hair to grow out most likely.

Any structural damage can weaken your curl pattern, agree with Rainboe if you have been heat styling it's more likely that than a one off colour process.

Ok thanks for all the feedback everyone. I'm not sure why, I think it's probably a mixture of both, but I'm done straightening so I hope it'll grow back.

I had highlights last year & three months later I started transitioning out of my perm. The highlights didn't affect my curl pattern, but the color did dry out my hair. You have to keep your hair moisturized. The color will soak it up. The lighter the highlights, the more you have to moisturize. By coloring your hair you have killed your hair. Limit the heat on your hair because that will dry out your hair even further.

teewalk21, you could also try protein treatments, sometimes they help the curls spring back

Thanks everyone, could you recommend a good protein treatment?

Some people like the DIY gelatin treatment - see the Recipes board. Otherwise Komaza Care protein strengthener for hardcore protein, or the KC Matani repair treatment for a gentler one (also has ceramides and panthenol).
