Curlies who have used Henna . . .

Remember that henna oxidizes over the first few days, so it probably won't be as intensely red after 3-4 days as it may first appear.

Okay so I think my mom might let me use henna, since it's natural and all, but her only concern is the fact that it's permanent. Is it true that it doesn't fade at all over time, and that the only way to get rid of it is to cut it out gradually over time?

Yes, that's all true. Like any permanent hair color, it may fade slightly, but it's basically there until it's cut off.

I decided to take the plunge after all the reading I'd done. I love it.

I used the bundle for grey coverage (dark brown) from the mehandi.com. Its the site that's associated with hennaforhair.com. I love it! I used 2/3 indigo and 1/3 henna. I didn't notice any curl relax at all. In fact, the most damaged part of my hair is actually returned to its natural wave. It was so flat that I was having to use a roller to make it match the rest of my hair. I thought about using amla, but wanted to just try henna and indigo to start. I think I'll add amla next time .

The mix chart that came with my henna packet is facinating! Its also on the hennaforhair website.

My hair is so glossy its unreal. It so far surpassed my expectations. My hair is so healthy looking. My hair is fine to med, and it did give me some extra texture. I think that you *have* to mosturize afterward. It was kinda straw-like. But I did a DT and it was fine after that. I can see that if you have super coarse hair you might not wanna try a full on henna treatment. For me it was perfect!!!

My family and friends are now sold. the glossiness alone was worth the process. not only that, it hasn't lost that luster. Its still there, almost a month later. I don't think I'll ever chemically process my hair again. It was worth the 6 hours with my hair wrapped in smelly green goo. Well I won't say never, ever, but man -- I saved a ton of money and the results were way better. AND instead of damaging my hair, it looks and feels healthier.

I'm just so happy with it I can't stand it.

I did it all at the same time. I did 2/3 indigo to 1/3 henna. I don't have a lot of grey, but its clumped together, in streaks. The grey was just a tad bit lighter, but not obviously so. let the henna have its dye release over night, then mixed up the indigo the next day. Mixed both together and slopped it on my head.

Every hair is different though. I wouldn't be able to do the indigo after henna because my hair isn't quite that dark.

thanks goobernut! i just ordered a bundle. i think i'll stick with my 2 step process since the length of my hair is already so dark from doing it that way before. i usually use the reshma henna, which isn't BAQ, so i'm excited to try this higher quality henna. i hope it gives me the glossiness you got from it :-)

my friend ordered from the same site, and we did it while she was visiting. Her hair is stick straight and a little lighter than mine. She used 1/2 indigo and 1/2 henna. Her hair ended up just as glossy as mine, but obviously more of a chocolate brown.

Good luck, and come back and tell us how it worked!

I used Punjabi Prime henna the other day. My natural hair color is dark brown, and now it's dark auburn. I love the color. Here's a picture from my fotki from one day after:

I loved what henna did to the condition of my hair, it became all soft and shiny and seemed to repair a lot of the damage. I got sick of the red color very quickly, I wanted to order one of the BAQ henna bundles for brunette hair from the hennaforhair site, but the shipping to Australia was SO expensive I couldn't bring myself to do it and have gone back to chemical dyes. Also I wasn't thrilled with it loosening my curl pattern.

Amla in your henna mix can help retain curls - I've always used it and could never tell that my curl was affected at all.

You might talk to tatooists to see if they can suggest a domestic supplier for body art grade henna and indigo if you really wanted to go back to it.

From the looks of your avatar, your hair is a color that they would work well on - you've probably seen mix suggestions/photos at the hennaforhair site.

I finally got around to using the henna I purchased in a bundle for grey coverage from hennaforhair. Since I have to do a two step process (henna first, then indigo), to color my greys black (so they match the rest of my hair), I did an experiment... I didn't apply my indigo right after my henna application this time. I wanted to see the difference between using Reshma henna and BAQ henna. I have to say that I'm very impressed with the BAQ henna! My hair is soft and glossy, just like Goobernut said :-) Better results than what I used to get from Reshma brand henna. I am letting it go the whole week before applying my indigo, just to see if the indigo makes a difference. Lately, my hair has been acting up, and for a while I've been wondering if the indigo I was using could have been the culprit. I'll report back after applying my Indigo from the hennaforhair bundle.

This thread is incredibly helpful. I just started CG but have been trying to figure out how to cover the gray at my roots without extending the damage chemical dying was so clearly doing. I think henna may be the answer! Off to hennaforhair.com for more research.

I will report back if I decide to take the plunge. Thanks all!

This is the day after I applied it. It has gotten a bit darker and less orangey since then.

It has definitely loosed my curls, though. Today my hair looks almost like I straightened it -- I'm normally a 2b/c with spiral curls, but all I have today is big waves. It's only been 3 days so maybe my hair will go back to normal soon?

I do love how shiny it has made my previously dull and damaged hair. Natural color here was sort of a dark blonde with lighter bleached-blonde ends.
