Default HIGHTLIGHTS......

Anyone who has hair similiar to Alicia Keys (I HAVE PIX), have you put hightlights in and it changed your hair texture or worse fallen out?? I've heard alot of bad stories and it's scarring me from hightlighting it now..... I really want to do it, cuz Im sick of having just black hair, lol........please just post what happened to your hair or what you've heard/seen! THANX TO WHOMEVER RESPONDS!!

I have 3B italian hair, so my experience with highlights is probably not comparable for your hair. I've had my hair highlighted twice, once at home, once at a salon. I loved the look both times, but I found it damaging and the highlighted sections lost their curl.
I would definitley suggest you discuss this with your stylist.

I have had highlights (curl type: 3A) and my hair lost its curl. I had to wait until all of it had grown out until I could wear my hair curly again. However, I did have a full head. I'd like to get some again but to avoid straightening the curls I'll probably just try a few very very fine ones round the face... perhaps you should try a few before you commit to a full head?

I have had highlights a few times and loved it! My 3b/c hair got a little frizzier or the curl went from b to c. I just have to give my hair a little more tlc

I'm a 3b with a bit of 3c, mixed African-American/white like Alicia, and I've had highlights twice (most recently in August, you can look at my pics and see for yourself). My texture did not change. But I went to a professional both times and I would recommend you doing that.

Just the oposite of urbancurl, I've had my 3b/c hair professionally highlighted twice---fried, dried, straighter, brassy! ---will never do salon ones again. However, I have been highlighting my hair myself for over 5-6 years with RC's kit, and neer have any problems. My curl remains the same and I don't fry my hair. The salon highlights were in the last 3 years, and it took forever to grow out the damaged hair.

So, be careful! The key is to NOT let them bleach your hair way too light; you only need to bleach to about 1-2 shades lighter than the color you want to be, then tone them with a gentle color. You don't need to go blonde if you want darker highlights.
