Color / highlights for pale skin, hazel eyes?

Can anyone please recommend some color and hightlight combinations?

I have very pale skin, hazel eyes, and medium ash blond hair with blonder highlights. (I look very bland / washed out).

I would like to darken my hair to add warmth/contrast, but am afraid it will be too dark for my cool peachy / pinky skin tone.

How do I know what shades look best with my skin and eye colors?

Thank you.

I think pictures would help for suggestions. I'd do lowlights of dark golden blonde of light golden/amber brown. Adds warmth, looks natural and if done well should make you're hair a gorgeaous raw honey color.
If you want impact, I'd say definitely go more red. My natural hair color's an ashy strawberry blond, I'm extremely pale and my eyes are somewhere between light brown and hazel. lol, i definitely feel your pain. With my natural color, I always looked a little lifeless and washed out, but ever since I started going red, my features have a lot more 'pop'

It wouldn't have to be BRIGHT "I love Lucy" red. Maybe a strawberry blond with darker red lowlights even. But the color would probably look amazing on you, if you have the right tone skin

Strawberry blonde or a carmely color would look great.
you sound like you have the exact same colouring as me!

based on that, i would avoid reddish tones because they can clash with pinky undertones.

i have my hair dyed a medium golden brown, which still looks rich (and not too dark) but doesn't have red in it.

hope that helps!

My real hair actually has red in it, but more people think I'm naturally colored now that it is dyed than before when it wasn't. Whenever I dye my hair I have to be very careful about the warmness of the color otherwise the red in my natural hair takes it and runs rampant and I end up with an orange mess- I had these issues especially when I was trying to go lighter.

It's always hard to make color recommendations I think unless you are in person- even pictures can be deceiving because of the lighting, but it might help people make better recommendations for you. Although there are websites that can give good recommendations based on face and eye shape and hair and eye color. Even so, if you are washed out, it's usually best to get some depth in your hair. Whether that means adding in some reddish brown lowlights (which actually could work out for you as opposed to going all over red) or just going for natural hues (as opposed to ashy or warm colors), it could be just the trick.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I think that is my fear--I would love to try the reddish tones, but am not sure how it would look with my pink skin.

(Also my eyebrows and eyelashes are also very blond. My eyebrows don't look good if I try to darken them. So I am not sure what I could do with them if my hair were a little darker / redder. I may look silly and still washed out a bit with darker hair and still blond eyebrows!)

I might just have to bite the bullet and try a mixture of the caramely, reddish, brownish tones on my hair and see what happens! Maybe a combo of color / highlights and lowlights will give me something to start with and then I could go from there a few months later when it's time for touch up.

I just wish I could trust a colorist to do this!

Thanks for your thoughts! It also helped to look at the pictures some of you had posted.

Reading your description I immediately thought a nice shade of red/reddish brown, maybe even go to a wig shop sample a few colors next to your skin.
