It sort of depends. How fast, what kind of terrain, etc.
I wear my sketchers shape ups when I walk and they do make a difference. I can feel a big difference in my legs hips and butt wearing them vs. without.

Walking certainly burns calories, but unless you are speed walking, it does so slowly compared to more vigorous exercise.

Walking a mile burns something like .5*your weight in calories. Running a mile burns .75*weight. And, you can do more miles in less time if you are moving faster.

As long as you know how many calories you are burning and how many you're eating, anything works.

I didn't get any visible results from walking. Running is really the only thing that has ever really reshaped my body, gotten me fit, and allowed me to lose some weight.

I think walking does work but if you just wanna firm and tone may weights, kickboxing or circuit training would be better for you.
